Post by jjones May 3rd 2011, 11:42 pm

I had to trawl through old mails to find a link to my forum. H Kristos.

But now I keep getting "Play Now" and "Download" popping up!
What are they and how do I get rid of them?

Are they popups or banner ads on the top of your forum?

If they are ads then that is usual, you have to pay to remove them - that is how forumotion can host your forum, by placing ads or charging to remove them.

Please provide me with your URL address so we can check if these ads are okay.

Even more worrying, in the space were I guess adverts are shown, I get a play triangle with no words and when I hover over it it asks me to download an add-on. Add-ons are dangerous if one does not know what they are likely to be for.

I really do hate those ads...
Well I have my forum on Reduce the number of displays for images advertisements set to 'yes'. I noticed I've only been getting image ads. Weird right? Then just recently I've been only getting text ads. Hahaha, well the point is I 'do' hate those ads.
:o

Maybe Forumotion could sponsor better people? It's not a bit deal for me cause I have mine set to guests. But really.... o.O

Exactly Nick, I read so many moans about ads on the forums... how do people think forumotion fund hosting these forums?!
Its not even expensive to remove the ads! Ive just done another 12 months, guests and members, I think it was about £35.

I pay over £100 a year to host another website, yes of course you don't get the whole kerbang of fully hosted with forumotion...but for £35 a year...its bargain of the year for me!

I said host 'better' ads. T_T Not 'remove' them.
But, yeah it seems like the only obvious decision is paying to remove them.

We do our best to get you ads the less intrusive possible, but at the end of the month we still need to pay employees/servers etc...so frankly there is a need for us to display ads that will give us a minimum of money.
