Solved is ad.yieldmanager from forumotion

Post by velvetleggs May 7th 2011, 2:58 pm

pages on my forum (www.adifferentopinion.net) are showing a delay in loading on my computer (i am admin) and i am getting sporadic complaints from members. on my computer the delay seems associated with ad.yieldmanager as the little box in the bottom left will say waiting for ad.yieldmanager. i am aware that is a small piece of software used by sites for targeting of advertising and i also know it should be possible to remove it.

however i would like to know if it is software that is used by forumotion or their advertising partners as obviously if this the case i am not too worried - however if it is nothing to do with them i will try removing it to see if that speeds up page loading and let my members know

cheers sphinx

You can remove it for members but not guests unless you pay credits. To remove for members:

1. Go to Admin Panel (Advanced) - General - Configuration
2. Find where it has "activate ads"
3. Set it to "Guest"
4. Click "Save"
5. You're done!

If this doesn't work, you will need to buy credits in the modules tab to remove the ad's.

i am not worried about the ads - i fully accept that in order to offer free hosting forumotion must get income from advertising - the adverts themselves are not the problem.

the problem is the programme ad.yieldmanager - which is designed to collect data on posting/browsing habits to enable better targeting of adverts.

i do not know if this is being used by forumotion or their advertising partners but it seems to be causing my forums pages to load slowly - if it is used by forumotion or partners then obviously i am happy for it to stay however if it has come in from another site and is effectly acting as spyware then i will get the tools to delete it.

the ads are not the problem the programme possibly slowing pages is

The ads are from that program, so it's all or nothing.
