How to display navigation links correctly?

Post by Ascot on May 10th 2011, 9:51 pm

I have 5 categories at the top level of my forum structure.

The biggest category has several sub-categories, each of which has one or more forums.

My structure and hierarchy has the following setting:

At the top level, my main category displays OK.

The 1st level category (Live Casino Poker) has all the Sub-categories shown (city names), and under each of those, the names of the forums for each venue in the city. Fine so far, as shown below:

Now, when I navigate directly to a forum in a sub-category, I see this:

Thats fine, I'm happy with that, because it shows the structure under the search field, so I can navigate back to either the two categories or the main forum, but why doesn't that series of link show on the following two screens, when I navigate to them (question 1)?

This is when I navigate to the sub-category:

This is when I navigate to the main category:

Question 2 is about the last picture - when I navigate to the main category, it just lists the forums which exist under the sub-categories. How can I ensure it shows the sub-categories too, the same way they appear on the main forum index, as shown in picture 2?

What do you have set up in there? I have the same index packing as you but I my forum seems to work differently to yours so maybe its that thats not set the same?

The only differences in our settings are:

Title length on last topic is 16 for me 20 for you.

And I have "Sub level links on Index" set to YES, otherwise my forums would not display below my city categories.

Can you post a pic of how yours looks? Or send a link? Thanks.

easier for you to look! A forum with sub forums is The Lounge, and the nav shows correctly on them all

ETA - I can't help with the second question as my layout is not the same to show them like that

Thanks - since my hierarchy is

Category1
>>> Category1a
>>>> Forum1
>>>> Forum2
>>> Category1b
>>>> Forum1
>>>> Forum2

I think its getting in a mess. Didnt want Cat 1a and b to be forums with sub forums as I didnt want anyone posting at that level. Guess I'll have to live with it Sad Was hoping one of the techies here would have an answer.

Thanks anyway - from Shropshire too as it happens!
