I changed my mind on my domain name....

Post by uafgrad on May 13th 2011, 12:15 am

If I were to buy another one, can my old custom one be directed to my new one? How does that work?

So first I had a forumotion URL. Bought a custom one, but now want to change it. Can I do that without losing my readers?

I think you'll have to pay for a new one, not too sure though. There is a way to make the old domain redirect. You'll most likely have to talk to one of the Domain guys through the ticket system or domain system (forget how you do it in admin panel). Hope this is accurate.

I don't mind paying. I just don't want to lose the domain, and ideally would like to have the old domain just redirect to the new one.

What is the ticket system?

There is no ticket system. You will need to contact Typlo for a cancel domain. You will need to buy another domain 1600 credits. It would be best if you send a newsletter letting your members know of this.

is there no way to keep the old domain as well, and have it redirect to the new one?

If you move the domain to another host and redirect that on that host to another domain you can have more then one. If you don't transfer the domain, Its not possible.

I can't start another forumotion site with my old domain and then have that redirected to my old site?

Nope. You can't transfer a domain to another forum.

So if I cancel the domain I have now, what will happen to it? Do I still own it?

So if I lose it, where does it go? Back as a public domain that is available for sale?

I guess I now see one advantage to buying your domain elsewhere?

I don't think so. In fact, I know that is not the case. If I paid for a full year (like I did with this domain) it belongs to me for a full year. In fact, I still have 2 domains with godaddy even though I did not renew them. Godaddy keeps telling me they will hold the domain for me. NEVER would they take it back just because I no longer want my website to have that URL.

Once you request to delete the domain it goes back on sell. Which is about 45 days to go back on the market and another 45 days to sell it again. What you want done isn't possible unless you move the domain to another host.

And how would I do that?

That sounds simple enough, but it sounds like Typlo is pretty busy and has a hard time responding to PMs. I need a new domain name ASAP. Any other person who can help me?

There is no Sylo. There is Typlo who is the only guy that does this.

Oh, sorry, that is who I meant up above.

Ok, still the same question. Sylo is not answering his PMs and I need a new URL. Can someone take care of that for me?
