Grammar Errors

Post by MrMario on May 29th 2011, 11:47 am

First topic message reminder :

Hello,

Do you see a grammar error or miss spelling? Post the original piece along with the correct version.

To ensure that its being looked at and to help locate this issue, please provide a screenshot and the location.

Example:

Admin Panel >> General >> Configuration

As of right now, this topic will only support English languages. Once we have more translators, the language will be added to the list. Not all translations will be updated right away as it will be reviewed before going public to ensure the updated version is correct.

Thanks for your help!

Also, shouldn't aerate be seperate? Would make a LOT more sense.

Post by Vanilla990 on February 26th 2012, 3:08 am

Hello,

A friend pointed out to me on a forum I run that there is a misspelling on the FAQ page on my forum. After double checking to see, I also went to check another forum to see if it was something I had done but it seems to be part of the default FAQ.

Below is a screenshot to show that it is spelt "Issus" on the page but should be spelt "Issues". Both of the screenshot images are on PunBB Forums. I'm not sure how much the forums versions differ when it comes to FAQ content.

Just thought I would pass on the problem.
Thanks,
Vanilla990.

I don't know if this would correspond here, but I'm posting it anyways. When you are at Forumotion.com and you read the article regarding Invision well at the bottom part of the article, the last paragraph, well it says bloggor. It should say blogger. Wink Just want to get that pointed out. Here's the link to the article if you want to read it yourself Smile

When removing a user from the "Inactive users" list, you are re-assured by the message:

These users has been removed.

I would think it should be:

The selected users have been removed.

p.s. BoraO - "Servimg.com" is an image hosting website used as forumotions default image hoster. So this "word" is actually correct.

Also: I'm not sure if this is wrong or if it's just something I don't understand, but when you do something you're not permitted to do regarding reporting posts you get the message:

You are not allowed to use this part of the Report Post Hack!

I'm not sure if it's just that I don't understand it or if it doesn't make sense

This is Big Brother tongue

AP > Users & Groups > Inactive users > message stating user/s is active is incorrect - it would be correct had of it been just 1 user, but there's usually more to activate.

Says:
This user has been activated

Should state:
The selected user(s) have been activated

Also, when deleting users via this option it says:
Removed Users (2)

Should say:
Removed x user(s)

That is all for now.

Good catch Ryan.

Actually no, the company was made by a just a "few" French people, and they don't know much English (as far as I'm aware?) back in 2005. When there was a full English Team, devs and all, there was a major language correction blitz but missed a fair bit Razz

6. Link Exchanging. Add your URL to as many sites with your theme as possible. Supposing you had a music themed site, you could try typing in googe: Add Url Music. It will help find link exchnage pages more suited to your theme. I actually asked one of my members to do this for me, and everyday she is adding my URL to link exchange pages.

Should that not read Google?

You know how every forum has "Logged as Nick. Your last visit was on" by default.

It should say "Logged in as Nick. Your last visit was on"

This just drives me up the wall. I've tried to edit it through Javascript, but no success.

When you get an email when you're watching a topic:

Should be:

If you're adding "you've" to your edit, shouldn't be "you've received" instead of "you've receive?"

Problem with Admin security setting
by Cliff Jones Yesterday at 2:40 pm

.Please bear with me on my Diatribe

I used my password and tried to login and it rejected the used password, I tried a number of passwords, but the security settings are such and are not using correct English syntax , so they are causing me some confusion ( and I'm sure others too!) as to the correct setting. I had to use another Administrator to just get me in to modify what I thought were correct settings. So I again could get into my forum.
-------------------------------
In the security settings :

The main problem is the word Disallow, then giving the choice of yes or no.
If I click on yes I now know that the word disallow is a negative word,

So if I say yes then I am committing a negative action to not allow which is an incorrect negative action.

If I say no then I am committing a positive action on a negative question which is also confusing.
---this is called a double negative-- which is incorrect and confusing, I only found out the results when I tried to obtain a new password to get into my forum.

Rather to be correct syntax it should say instead
Allow this to take place then the choice of yes or no ------------------------------
Here's a good example:

Confirm password to administration access : Yes No. (this good, its a positive question)

Disallow "Send by e-mail a new password" to administrators and moderators : Yes No (this is bad its a negative question)

This should be stated as
" Automatically send a requested new password to replace a lost password by Email : Yes No"
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This item disallow the use of 'I forgot my password' for administrators and moderators.
It is advised to activate it (if you are sure to not forget your password...). Do you activate it by a yes or a NO? This to, is confusing!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
You can always modify your password in 'Profile'..Disallow moderators to ban members : : Yes No. Again Do you activate it by a yes or a NO? This to, is confusing!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Allow moderators to see the hidden users : Yes No (this good, its a positive question)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Note: You have two different but apposing ways to ask a question, its not uniform and therefore not correct English and confusing.
I hope I have explained my experience well enough, to understand and also as a suggestion, as a change to consider.
Thank You
