Gallery notifications of new post

Hi, is there any way, so that the gallery can let us know when someone has posted a new picture, or commented.

Sort of in the same way, as the PM button can be chagned when theres is a new PM.
Because it is annoying having to go back to the gallery to check if anyone has commented or not.

So is there anyway for a notification? or for it to be like the PM button and change when there is a new pic posted?
Or even someway to set it up so it lets us know the same way categories do, by changing icon.

Or any sort of javascript to configure it to do that?
