Solved Concerned about security with Forumotion forums

Post by efbe on June 14th 2011, 2:45 am

Hi all, i have a question to raise regarding security with Forumotion forums, particularly mine...i have over a period of time received pm's from a guest who has logged on without registering and asks me (the Admin)
to contact him/her to improve our search ratings. Now, if this person can get into my forum without registering, no ip address, just an email address at the bottom of the pm, which by the way is a Gmail account, and sneaks in during the night like a burglar and leaving without any record of registering, what's stopping some one else from entering the forum and causing mahem. I have my forum set to the Administrator validates the email before activating a new account, but this one seems to pop in and out when ever it feels like it.
I find it a bit concerning. Anyway, below is a snapshot of the pm sent to me on my forum. Any ideas or does everyone who runs a forum with Forumotion receive these PM'S as well? I hope it's not a standard thing as it makes me feel a little uncomfortable knowing some one can just come in and send pm's.
Cheers.

Hi,

Those PM's are coming from guests in which they can send pm's to the forum founder through the 'Contact' link at the bottom of the forum, you can disable this feature by going to the:
Admin Panel > General > E-mails & Contact Form > Contact Form > Activate : No > Save

This will disable the sending of PM's from random guests Wink
