Merged doublepost

Post by darkknight on June 24th 2011, 4:42 am

First topic message reminder :

Hello. My name is darkknight as how you can see in my profile.

Well, I am going to talk shortly.
oK, this idea is one i've seen in few VBulletin forums(That i'm pretty sure that can be also scripted for our forums systems).

The idea: when an user is attempting to doublepost, the first message gets edited saying: merged doublepost (hour): Message.
This will avoid the doublepost count.

I am sorry if my english is kinda bad. I'm trying to improve and work on my english everyday! thumright !

Ok. Anyways i got a pic:

Anyways, sorry if it is in a bad resolution Sad.

Different opinions don't mean lack of respect and open warfare Wink

If it was, I'd be in a lot of wars Mr. Green

The only thing I do not like about this is on my forum members have show & tells that they can reply back to back. If they did not, the post would be very huge and will load slow.

The size of posts doesn't affect the loading speed. It's if you have big images, animated gifs, flash (etc) that it'll load slowly. Text really isn't an issue on browsers Smile (I'm not putting myself garant for IE though tongue)

From Caihlem: Some threads are automatically one-person posts (ex: rules or dedicated sections). Also, like in some tutorials, it's sometimes practical/necessary to separate your comments into several distinct posts

I vote no, and my reason jives right along with Caihlem's. While I do think we do need something about merging double posts, I'd rather have the choice to merge two topics as the administrator instead of it automatically happening, which could possibly mess up what I might want to do on a board.

I voted yes, it's very good idea. Sometimes I've to merge like 20 posts, and members receive warnings for it :/ And anyway they keep post doubling...
"bump" should be possible, but after 24 hour, so every 24 hours member could add new post.
With all respect but, people which voted NO, probably don't have forum on forumotion, and they don't know how this option could make life easier...

I personally don't need this but don't see a problem with having an option for it, voted yes

as long as it is optional

I meant posts with many images. The show & tells is for a game that players build zoos which they show screenshots in the their threads.
