Is it possible to auto-unsubscribe members from groups after a certain post count? Empty Is it possible to auto-unsubscribe members from groups after a certain post count?

Post by Beyond_impossible June 30th 2011, 12:29 am

Hi again,
I had a question about automatic user group memberships not long ago, and it was solved quickly, but it led to another problem. I'd like users with 0 post count to belong to a user group called 'new members' and they would have to read the rules and post to confirm that before being able to post to anywhere else. After one post however I don't want them to be in 'new members' anymore, neither to see that thread.

My problem is that even after I manually take the users out of the 'new members' group they auto-subscribe back in and see the newbie board. Is there a way to give further conditions to this auto-subscription or to have users automatically unsubscribe after a certain post count?

Thanks Smile

There is no way to remove someone from the group because once they post again they get put back into the group.

And is there another way to make a whole forum disappear from view than to modify user group access rights?

Yes, there is a way

First, If you want members automatically be accessed forum by means of post counts:
1. Administration Panel
2. Users & Groups
3. Groups > Group Administration
4. Create new group
5. Group auto-subscribe : Yes, then Minimum post you wanted.

Next, you need to set the permission to specific group.
1. Administration Panel
2. General
3. Forum
4. Categories & Forums
5. Click permission icon Is it possible to auto-unsubscribe members from groups after a certain post count? Perms and set the permission to specific group or groups you wanted to see only by the groups you permitted to access.

Thats it, if you create new group to for example 'VIP Group' then set the permission of the forum to 'VIP Group' only.

There is no way to do what you want automatically. You will have to manually add or remove members from a specific group for what you want to work.

Thanks for the reply both of you, but, I know that.

My problem is that I don't only want members to be part of a group automatically at zero post count, but I want them to unsubscribe from it after they reach one. Just as Mario said, even if I manually remove them they get put back in to the group once they post again.

So maybe I'm looking in the wrong direction. What I really want is to make a certain forum appear only to members with 0 post count and disappear from view once a member made at least one post there. Is it possible?

Though hang on i think i know a way.

What you need to do is make a group called 'new members'
and set the minimum post count to 0 for auto subscribe.

So when someone signs up, they are in that group and will see the newbie board if you set pemrissions right.

Then what you want to do is set up another group called whatever you want maybe something just like 'members' and set the auto subscribe to 1 post.
and then set the permissions of THAT group to NOT be able to see the newbie board.

So when a newbie makes his first post he will be part of the new group called members. (also part of the newbie group too)

HOWEVER, if you order the groups so the 'Members' group is before the 'newbie group' then it own't matter that they are in the 'newbie group' because of the group ordering.
The ordering will mean that they won't see the newbie board because the member group is ordered first.

Thank you!

I did everything the way you said when I set things up, but I'm not sure about how I ordered them. I deleted both groups since then, but I'll remake them and give it one more shot and try to put them in that order later.

Order them roughly something like newbie group number 10 and members group number 9. As long as the minimum post count of 1 group is before the newbie group then it should go by the permission of that first group.

Hi,
I tried it but it didn't work Sad

Unfortunately if my members are in any group that can see the forum then they will, no matter how I order the groups. Thanks for the suggestion though, but it seems there's no solution for my problem. Ah well, it wasn't so important, just an idea I had, but I can live without it Smile
