Solved Multi-Banners?

Post by KissMeKassy on July 24th 2011, 6:08 am

Is there anyway to install two or more banners for the top of my page that will be different each time a member refreshes or goes to a new topic?

Solved Re: Multi-Banners?

Post by coco moco on August 4th 2011, 10:21 am

Sorry KissMeKassy, I completely forgot about this thread. I'm not sure what forum version you are, and I think this will only work for PHPBB3. Hopefully, if you have a different version, someone would be kind enough to adapt it Smile

How to get a multibanner in PHPBB3

The first thing you need to do is go to http://www.htmlbasix.com/banner.shtml and create the code (it's pretty self-explanatory on the site). Although, we could write it, it is a little pesky, and if you're not used to jscript then it's easy to get wrong.

Next you will need to open notepad, or any plain text editor. Select all of the code and copy it into notepad. Then save it.

You want to open another notepad document now. Select everything between <script type="text/javascript"> and </script> including those tags. Cut this text and paste it into your new notepad document. Save the document.

You will be left with code that looks something like this:
Code:
<a href=""http://www.yoursite.com"" id="adLink1" target="_top"><img src="http://i40.servimg.com.yourimage.png" id="adBanner1" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>

What you need to do is replace each set of double quotation marks with a single quotation mark so it looks something like this:
Code:
<a href='http://www.yoursite.com' id='adLink1' target='_top'><img src='http://i40.servimg.com.yourimage.png' id='adBanner1' border='0' width='468' height='60'></a>

The next step is to copy this code:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery("div.headerbar")
   .html("<div class='inner'><span class='corners-top'><span></span></span><div id='logo-desc'><div id='logo'>.......................................................</div></div><span class='corners-bottom'><span></span></span></div>");
</script>

Paste it into a fresh document and save it (we're using so many documents so if you make a mistake you have a all the tools to hand). Save the file.

The next step is to replace the "......................................................." in the div container, with the html with the single quotations:
Code:
<a href='http://www.yoursite.com' id='adLink1' target='_top'><img src='http://i40.servimg.com.yourimage.png' id='adBanner1' border='0' width='468' height='60'></a>
Save the file as something else so you still have the separate files.

We're nearly there Smile

Next go to ACP=>Display=>Generalities

In the home page message, you are going to paste the code you have done all the editing too.

Then after that you are going to paste the other code in the <script> tags we discarded at the start.

Press save. You don't need to give it a title.

Your formatting will be consistent with your theme, and things like centring the multi-banner should still be possible in the ACP. As the classes are exactly the same as if you had a regular banner, editing your CSS is a breeze and anyone can help you with that.

Please note with this code you won't get a site description. I haven't included it as most people get rid of it.

Hopefully, this helps Smile

Or you can try the easy way
http://randimg.net
You register, make your own pile with banner images you want, take the code and put it AP > Display > Pictures management > Advanced mode > Forum logo
