Solved Space between Navigation bar and Banner.

Post by Trauma on August 7th 2011, 4:15 pm

Hello, I was having difficulty today while adding my new banner to my forum.
I had resized the banner to my liking, then uploaded via servimg.

Though afterwards I was getting a strange blank space between my navigation bar and banner, no matter what I try to do it will remain, I have tried everything from editing the picture to smaller sizes, looked for codes on here that might rid me of the problem but there is no luck so far.

I provided a screenshot below of my troubles and the link to my forum (in case needed)

I have marked the areas in a red box

http://kotnr.forumotion.com/

What I am wanting is for those spaces to be gone so my banner can rest just over the body of my forum, with my nav bar directly under the banner image. I would like to go ahead and thank any help I may receive, it is highly appreciated.

I like your Soh Tanaka rotator Very Happy

Try:

Code:
.mainmenu {
margin-top: -30px;
margin-bottom: -30px;}

Thank you, I figured it would give the site a little touch, glad to see that someone took the time to notice.

Well I had went to the CSS/Colors tab (not exactly precise as to what it is referred as), and I am getting the following message right on top of my screen

Error

We have counted a different number of "{" and of "}". It means your CSS risks to be not valid and will not be posted correctly on your forum.

We advise you to reread your code.

Im not sure if it matters, but im using phpBB2

Can you post your whole site CSS? Something else is broken in it, but I can fix it for you Smile

Not a problem

Code:

.bodyline {background: transparent}

a[href="/u1"]{
text-decoration: none !important;
text-shadow: 0 0 0.2em white, 0 0 0.2em white, 0 0 0.2em white;
}

a.mainmenu{
filter:alpha(opacity=80);
-moz-opacity: .80;
opacity: .80;
  }

a.mainmenu:hover{
filter:alpha(opacity=100);
-moz-opacity: 1.0;
opacity: 1.0;
    }

.headerbar {
  background-color: #hex color;
  background-image: url('url');
  margin-bottom: 4px;

.mainmenu {
margin-top: -30px;
margin-bottom: -30px;}

I just feel like a pest now to say this, but the blank spots are still there.
Is there something in the CSS that I should perhaps take out?

(I do thank you for the support, you are being very helpful, I guess my forum is just deciding to be a menace today)

Well this is just odd, that one is not working either?
I had replaced the code you had just provided me with the code you had given me earlier.

Hi,

For the gap bellow the logo you can check this topic. It's your forum description gen space.
http://help.forumotion.com/t93556-remove-lines-from-under-links-and-decrease-increase-space-between-nav-bar-and-logo
Use the class replacment, or remove br tags.

As for the navi, it will help to cut the pictures a bit since they are sized 62x62 with png transparent bottom that also adds the space and can bee lower so they'll collapse better. There is a code in the topic that will move them aswell.

Example.

Oh ok well I am seeing progress (thank you, both of you)
With the code you provided in the other thread, I was able to get my banner directly above my nav bar.

As for the nav bar it is not going down, and im having trouble finding the exact code to use in the other thread, or would I have to re-edit the pictures and simply make them smaller?

You can just cut the bottom since it's png transparent space and they'll collapse. Edit them in a PS and you'll see what I'm thinking of.

It's this one to move them around.

Code:
a.mainmenu {
    position: relative;
    top: 20px;
}
