Homepage for forum

Post by julesmk on Thu 11 Aug 2011, 17:30

Is it possible to make a page like this trough HTML and use it as homepage?

http://runeunited-online.com/home/

if so, if anyone knows how to make it, i'd be happy to pay you if you don't want to do it for free. Hem

EDIT : it doesn't need to be the same, it has to use the same layout, you don't have to make any graphics i just need codes i will make the graphics myself.

That is static HTML page. You can find thousands HTML templates online. For example:
http://www.templatemo.com/page/1

Choose what you like and modify it to fit your needs.

1) Get the code for the homepage, either by downloading it or writing it.

2) Copy the code into a HTML page (ACP > modules > HTML page)

3) at the top it says "Use this as home page", select yes.

When you download the file you get a zip file that has many files. No code.

USING HTML TEMPLATES ON YOUR FORUM IN 7 SIMPLE STEPS (WITH IMAGES)

STEP 1:
Choose your template!
I have chosen this one: http://www.templatemo.com/templates/templatemo_304_light_gray/
I've chosen it because it's simple and has HTML/CSS only (No Javascript/jQuery). I will use it throughout whole tutorial process.

STEP 2:
Click on the demo of your template
http://www.templatemo.com/templates/templatemo_304_light_gray/
And then > Right click > Show source code > Copy WHOLE code and paste it to your NOTEPAD or Word document
http://i.imgur.com/4loai.png
http://i.imgur.com/SmfU5.png

STEP 3:
Go back to Demo of your template and do Right click > Show source code again. Click on the link from the pic
http://i.imgur.com/t19wB.png
Copy that code

STEP 4:
Go to your notepad, find this and delete the row
http://i.imgur.com/rhaeo.png
Then write this instead that row
Code:
<style>
Paste the code you copied from STEP 3
</style>

STEP 5:
Download template files from http://www.templatemo.com/preview/templatemo_304_light_gray
Upload all images from the ZIP file you have to your servimg or imageshack or any other image uploading account (Make sure you don't change their names) - IMPORTANT: There are a lot of images in the ZIP file, see STEP 6 in order to find out what images do you actually need to upload

STEP 6:
Go back to your notepad, and see the code between <style> and </style> attribute. You can see a few codes that look like this (not all of them have the same name like templatemo_service_bg but all have (images/ before):
Code:
(images/templamteo_service_bg.png)
Notice that they all start with (images/
Start deleting everything between brackets and replace it with direct link of images you upoaded from STEP 5
Example:
Code:
(images/templamteo_service_bg.png)
You delete images/templamteo_service_bg.png and put the direct link of image you uploaded and which HAS THE SAME NAME AS DELETED ONE. And do this WITH ALL IMAGES.

STEP 7:
When you finish, copy WHOLE code from Notepad and paste it to AP > Modules > HTML pages management > Create new page

You're done - You have HTML page online. NEXT STEP > Modify it to your needs (You'll need HTML and CSS knowledge for doing it)

Note for Managers and Moderators: Sorry for using the bold nad increased text size, but you must certainly agree that writing a tutorial without bolding and highlightning some elements is impossible or untidy. If I'm either not allowed to to this, inform me by PM before doing any moderating action Smile

Regards,
V.

Thanks for the tutorial. I'm have a few problems though :s

Im using this one: http://www.templatemo.com/templates/templatemo_298_neo_blog/

It differs from yours in that there are two links that start with <link

Code:
<link href="css/templatemo_style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

<link href="css/svwp_style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

Do I delete both?

Also do I just put

Code:
<style>css/templatemo_style.css</style>

...like that? Or do I put the whole line?

Also I can't find any place to put the background color images. Not all images have a place for them in the code. So what should I do? Thanks.

You're using more complex one, with slider - I would not recommend you that because you don't have sufficient HTML and CSS knowledge in order to edit it and you'll have problems later. So, try with more simple and static one Smile

About your question, you delete first one and put this text instead
http://www.templatemo.com/templates/templatemo_298_neo_blog/css/templatemo_style.css
When you put it, you can see this code there
Code:
body {
   margin: 0px;
   padding: 0px;
   color: #5f5555;
   font-family: Tahoma, Geneva, sans-serif;
   font-size: 13px;
   line-height: 1.5em;
   background-color: #1c1816;
   background-image: url(../images/templatemo_body.jpg);
   background-repeat: repeat-x;
   background-position: top;
}

Change background-image link to your own.

Ill take your advice into consideration adn therefore I will make a static homepage too just in case.

But as for the one that I chose, it's better now...but really the only problem is the slider...the pictures are just on top of each other ina vertical line instead of only showing one picture and sliding.

For example:

@julesmk
You musn't upload links like this
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/69/templatemomore.png/
It must be direct link (example):
http://i.imgur.com/4BuYR.png

Reupload your images via Imgur.com

@middo2
It's because slider uses javascript, and that's a bit more complex than plain CSS/HTML, so I suggest you try with different and more simple template.

I choose a static one as you suggested: http://www.templatemo.com/templates/templatemo_248_world/

But why does it look like this? The thing in the middle is too small?: http://www.newhorizings.com/h1-homepage
