How to Add Image Verification to your Forum

HOW TO ADD IMAGE VERIFICATION TO YOUR FORUM

Please be aware that this image verification protects you only from spam bots, not from human spam. This is because justhumans verification system does not deny access to registration if the wrong image is clicked whilst verifying. Sounds strange but spam bots cannot do image verification at all at the moment so they wont even get as far as making a mistake. Please also have a button made up with REGISTER on it before starting this tutorial.

Step 1

Set up an account at http://www.justhumans.com. They host your image verification for free. Once you have email activated your account with them you will be able to create a form. Click to do so. Give it a name, i called my verification. Leave it set to active. This next bit is important. Come back to your site, log out, and hover your mouse over the registration link in your nav bar. Right click and copy shortcut. Come back to the form maker on justhumans and in the redirect the user box right click and paste the short cut. What this means is that when a registering member passes the verification test, they will then be redirected to the proper registration page for your forum.

Step 2

You can choose to be emailed whenever someone passes the verification test. If you wish to do so, check the box and add your email. If you want information of each submission to be stored on the justhumans database click the box. Ignore the repost URL. Ignore the images for the time being and click save.

Step 3

If you want to use 6 of your own images, you will see on the next page after saving, an images link in the nav bar. Click it. You can now upload images but you must make sure it is the size specified on the images page. Once uploaded you would then edit your form and scroll to the bottom where you can check the images you want to use in place of the default.

Step 4

When finished editing, click generate code. You will be able to select a style for your images, any one will do. You can also change the wording, the keyword being the name of the image registering member will need to pick to pass the verification test. Once finished copy the code in section three.

Step 5

Come back to your admin panel and go to>>>modules>>>html page. Create a new page. This is an example of my own wording that i put as the code you have will only show the image verification, not explain what its for:

http://p2ptest.forumotion.com/validation-h1.html

Change the wording if you like but when you are finished the text part and ready to paste your code for the image verification, make sure you add the <form>tag in front of the code and the </form> tag at the end of the code.right click Preview it and check it works. It should redirect you to the registration page of your site. Click save.

Step 6

You now need to get rid of your direct registration link in the nav bar, and replace it with the image verification page. The only way to do this, is to go into "admin>>display>>headers&navigation" and set display only images in the nav bar to: yes. Go into modify the pictures and remove the code present for your registration link. Dont replace it just save. Come back into headers and down to add a link. You will need a button with register on it. Upload it by imageshack, photobucket or servimg. Place the code for it in the picture selected box. Place the URL to your HTML image verification page in the redirect URL and you can add the word verification in the alternative text box. Save the new link and preview your forum. Test it out and you should now have image verification for your forum. Coupled with users having to activate their accounts from their email you should be secure
