In progress Cant see certain images--Appear as red X

Post by Crazee on September 11th 2011, 5:45 pm

Several members have reported having difficulty with some images on forum, including smilies & banners. Not everyone has a prob. Any ideas?

Posting consecutively is not tolerated unless separated by 24 hours since the last post. In future, please use the edit button. Wink

Check to see if you've got an image for it in the smileys management.

It could also be because of their size... just a thought..

I was unable to post a pic in 1st post. The image option was only available after that post---which was my 2nd ever in this forum.
It is not only smilies, it is also banners, buttons etc. They were fine at 1 time, now they are not. It definitely is not the size.

Maybe you will need to upload those images again.

The majority of forum members can see the images but several cannot. Any other forums experiencing this?

Upload them to another image host.

I am owner (partner) in the same forum, let me try to give more information maybe it will help.
here are 2 pictures of what it should be seen (and is by many) and what is seen by some.

These are .jpg pictures used in a forum widget.

The problem happens only to pictures that are processed through the forum admin. .jpg pictures posted in a regular post are seen clearly by everyone.

The pictures are stored simply as .jpg in my computer - posted in a post - and copied into the widget.
The other example - they were uploaded from my computer into the emoticons section.

Is there any other information that may assist you in finding a solution?
I'll be glad to give you a link to the forum if that helps.

Appreciate your response
JJ

This isn't an issue with Forumotion. This happens to be with the users browser. Like I said please upload the images to another host and have the users clear their cache.

It is because you are using internet explorer on the bottom image, and I will bet a can of worm that the top one is in FF or another browser.

Oh - how to fix - umm - we had/still do have this problem - I hate IE - carefully check your html code - (the image codes) - rewrite them.

this occurred to me as well in IE9 & Opera but not in Chrome/firefox.

The problem is that the smileys file extension is .gif & not .jpg or .png. When you upload smileys to hosts such as servimg or tinypic; even if you upload animated .gif file the returning directlink is something http_______.jpg; you just have to rename the bold file extension to http_______.gif & then use them in smiley center. Images must be right then. Smile

PS: as an example go here: http://tinypic.com/a/286j4/3

when you click a smiley this appears:

now you have to change the last .jpg to .gif
