Solved Reqeust limit exceeded

Post by LGforum on September 15th 2011, 3:37 pm

First topic message reminder :

Right my forum is still having issues which are in need of technician.
Both of my problems im about to outline now have happened to lots of my members, so it IS the forum, it IS NOT my browser or computer.

1. Frist problem is the problem you have been hearing a lot lately. Every now and then the forum keeps going to the 'You can return to index page' on every link. This makes it impossible to view forums, inbox, or even the ACP. This problem has NOT been fixed yet.

2. My second problem is this:
Every now and then when i click on something (and my other members have also experienced it) it goes to a page with this message:
"
Request limit exceeded

It appears that your computer has made too many requests on the same page recently. Please make sure your antivirus is up to date.

If you have any questions about this message, feel free to contact the support""

So im assuming this is forumotions... so here i am contacting the support which it so invited me to do.

My forum address is: www.leopardgeckoforum.com

Solved Re: Reqeust limit exceeded

Post by LGforum on October 21st 2011, 10:54 pm

Its been explained why this is happening by Dion. There's nothing we can do. The server will just not recieve as many requests now in a short space of time.
And so we can exceed our request limit a lot easier.

Solved Re: Reqeust limit exceeded

Post by The Godfather on October 27th 2011, 11:22 am

Hello,
all the problems of "Reqeust limit exceeded" that you still have up today are comming from your JS!! you are using so many javascripts on your forum with a lot of hits on several pages that are useless and substantially increase your pages loading time causing the indicated error...

so it's not a technical problem on forumotion forums but the mistakes you make in the management of JavaScripts that you put on your forum...

as you define a JavaScript for each function in a different file which makes a lot of hits on your forum when calling this function.
I recommend you to group your JS acting in the same file that will save you a lot of hits and therefore loading time of pages and fix your problem Wink

Funny thing...I wasn't "making javascript management mistakes" until very recently. I could load 10-12 JS files with no problems until a few weeks ago. And before the JS files, I was loading dozens of HTML files filled with scripts with no issues.

And as I and others have reported, the problem also occurs in the Admin Control Panel. I'm still trying to figure out how I can be "making javascript management mistakes" while in the template area of the ACP. Wink

While I agree that it's a good idea for a page to limit the amount of server hits for performance reasons, is it that hard to admit that you reduced the request limit to keep a certain Python script from working properly? You know, the one that scrapes a forumotion forum so a person could move their board to a new host...

I have no problem at all with your doing this, other than to suggest you raise the limit slightly because it can be hit manually. And I doubt whether many members would have problems with it. So why try to hide the real reason?

EDIT: I just realized that you are now automatically combining scripts. When did that start? I'm asking because I've seen a LOT of scripts that weren't written in a way that would allow them to be combined -- and that would explain the recent posts from people saying that their scripts suddenly stopped working.

It only happens on forumotion as they have set the server reqiest limit too low.
As Dion explained they have likely done this to prevent certain crawler scripts from scraping the database, so people can move to a proper host.

I'll try again with asking them if they can increase it just a little and if they say the same thing, that is pretty much the final say.

Solved Re: Reqeust limit exceeded

Post by CWAsh on November 17th 2011, 4:56 pm

How can this be solved?
I am getting this error in as simple as when a lot of people have posted threads and simply clicking from one to the other, if there is more than say (3) in a row. It also happens when i click certain links eg: members list and in admin panel. I have been using this service for a long time and its only recently the problem has come to fruition and is a constant annoyance to be shown a white screen with a "request limit exceeded, please check your antivirus is up to date and contact support" then after a few minutes it loads my page. I haven't changed the way i use my forum in years and now this. I hope this is still being looked at because its a big problem and i do love this service as the easiest to use and my members enjoy it.
