Like I said it depends on if they are a RIP... GIMP for example is a free program so you can ulpoad it.... Photoshop isn't so you can't upload a free download of it.

Even if it is free, you have to have the permissions/rights to upload it on your forum.

Hi, if you're wondering on what is acceptable and what is not then I advise you to read our terms of service: http://www.forumotion.com/en/create-forum/terms-of-service.htm

As for freeware, I would not advise you to have a forum for that as you still need the author's permission to distribute free software.

For "freeware", that is correct. But for software under licenses like the GPL (such as GIMP), they may be redistributed.

You still have to have permission from the creator of it to host it your forum.

There is no clear answer, however if you insist then I would personally say 'no' because having downloads on your forum is not a good decision in the first place. Please consult the above posts made by us for more information. Not all forums have downloads. Smile

I would say if you have something that is free and you want to share it, to share only the links leading to the official site of then content that is free for use.

I have seen gimp mentioned a few times, ok so in that case either share the link leading to the official gimp site, or share a link that goes to something like cnet.com that is authorized to provide free downloads on their site's.

Like this. Official gimp site
http://www.gimp.org/

or a place like cnet that is authorized.

Nopes, you cannot upload the freeware to your hosting & then distribute. Its already mentioned in the previous posts, you require permission to distribute the freeware.

Well it seems a little silly to download a free program form it's authorized source only to re-up and share on your forum. I mean it's your forum you can do what you want, but if people complain to forumotion litigations and litigations feels it's a violation they will just shut the forum down.
So it would be in your best interest to only use the source links leading to the official site and authorized content.

With that being said, the question has been explained and answered more then once, I do not see any reason to leave this thread open any longer.

Thread now marked and locked.
