security update

Post by angels77 on Tue 27 Sep - 19:50

absolutely ridiculous to prevent admin being able to copy and paste email addresses
pointless tinkerings provide no extra security quite the opposite several other forums also do

we contact new joiners as we require more information than just name and email address before accepting them so all your ridiculous update has done is prevent our forum and others from contacting these new joiners therefore not accepting new members

very retarded of you and the muppet that conceived such a dumb idea
...

was he bored

less big brother admin should have control of the forum not you

Since the email address is visible, nothing is stopping you from contacting the new members. It will just take an extra 10 seconds to manually type in the address as opposed to cut/paste.

So what's the problem?

You can still contact new memebers by their emails. Press the Email button (user profile) in the administration panel to send an email.

tried that address vanishes and doesnt work but thank you for polite reply unlike the other noobs

note
we contact them BEFORE activating accounts

Admin should NOT be restricted from administrating as we see fit

If you go to ACP>Users&Groups>Inactive Users, and click on the New Users tab, you will see a list of users who haven't been activated. Click on the name of one of those users, and you will be taken to their admin-only profile.

Now...right-click the Email button next to the email address. Select "Copy email address". You will have the email address in the clipboard, and it can be pasted anywhere you want.

Noobs aren't supposed to know anything. I knew this and you didn't. What does that make you? Wink

(Of course, the good folks at eToxic will probably remove this ability now that it's been made public. If that happens, then use the old-school way of writing down the email address and manually typing it into an email.)

OMG! You love chess too? I'm typing up a private message for ya.

Anyway, this caught my eyes from the announcement :

@The Godfather wrote:theft of personal data.
I think the real security of the update is to keep us jailed up by using ForuMotion's services.
This is what I assume. Then, the covering up part kicks in once again..

Can't say much here, for whatever reason they did this is up to them. Others ways like you said can be done which isn't that hard to figure out. Only took me less then 10 to know there are other ways.

Is this solved? If so please don't go off topic in the future.

Well i have to admit, i had to read godfathers post a couple times before i understood what he meant, Basically he is just letting us know that forumotion has done their security updates and is nothing we forum admins will really notice but is in place and running,
Accept the small part with the email address in the acp profile.
So Big deal, all that grief because of that little thing angels77,? Sad

Anyway you can still copy the addresses in the admin panel user list? plus like mentioned above, you can click on the pm or email option right next to it in the profile ACP..

However everyone is entitled to there opinions and perspectives.
With that being said.

Since angels77 has had the opportunity to stress her personal ,points and opinions on the matter, I see no reason to leave this thread open any longer.

Thread now locked.
