Post by WeezyFBaby on October 1st 2011, 5:19 pm

Hello,

I was just wandering if its possible to have the chatbox displayed in every page of the forum So the members dont have to just be on the homepage to chat, They will be able to chat on any forum page. Thanks Smile

In the Who's Online section there is a clickable link to open a new window for the chatbox. If you do that, you can have two windows open: chatbox and forum.

You are welcome. The link should say Join the Chat.

If you switch to a customizable skin such as PunBB or PhpBB2 (I think that's the PhpBB that allows custom coding), you can take the chatbox coding from Admin Panel > Display > Portal > mod_chatbox and copy-paste it into, say, the footer coding. This was done on a site for which I'm one of the administrators, and it worked great.

Thing is; ALL of these methods above are not very good methods as it means the chatbox will even show up to guests and well... that just looks messy Wink

And i definitely wouldn't stick the chatbox in announcement.

My method would not allow guests to see the chatbox.

That's really only an opinion. I'm one of the lead admins for a forum with a chatbox that appears on every page (the coding is in the footer template), and the forum looks great.

Another thing -- when guests view the forum, they will see a box that says something along the lines of, "Guests cannot view the chatbox!" not the chatbox itself. Seeing a forum with a chatbox could incite more would-be-users into joining.

But like I said, this is all opinion. My suggestion, WeezyFBaby, is to try out a few different methods to see what works best and get feedback on all options.

No but it doesn't do what the original poster wanted, put the chat in all pages Wink

@legolover, yup fair enough, just an opinion.
And i thought when guests see the chatbox, it is still a big box but says something like 'you need to be connected to log in' something like that.

I do not have the chatbox on every page. I just open a new window from the homepage.

If members are chatting in the chatbox why would they want to go to another forum page. To me it would be easier to have two windows open: one for chatting and one for navigating the forum.

Thats the point lol. The OP wants the chatbox to appear on EVERY page... therefore they DONT have to go to another page. Its right there on the page. That would be easiest.

On my forum it shows up on every page and its readily availablre at the bottom of the screen, ready to pop up. Making chatting very easy.
