By doing this does this remove the myforum.forummotion.com
and change it to my domain i already own

or does it simply just forward the forummotion domain to the domain i own?

It simply forwards. You can use your old forumotion address too.

But how do i simply make it show the custom domain. I don't want the members to be able to see the forum motion url

It won't show the forumotion URL. Those who have the older URL of forumotion, when entered int he address bar will redirect to your custom domain.
