Basic Post Moderation
On my forum there is a dispute system active in which users can dispute any post or topic removals from the boards. Moderators are human after all and sometimes misread posts, they're not infallible.
Anyway, I am suggesting the option that instead of removing a post from the boards entirely it is removed only from the public but when a moderator sees it it reads:
This message by *user* has been removed from public view. Deleted by *admin*, 14 minutes ago, Reason: flaming. (show) (undelete)
By clicking show you can read what the post said originally. By clicking undelete the post is revealed to the public again.
Essentially when a moderator or administrator clicks the delete button over a post they see a screen like this:
Deletion Type:
*selector box*Remove from public view for reason: *text box*
The item will remain viewable by moderators and may be restored at a later date.
*selector box*Permanently delete
Selecting this option will permanently and irreversibly delete the item.
Perhaps the option to designate which moderator usergroups can permanently delete would also be a good idea but that would tie into individual moderator privileges suggestions.
Anyway, I hope this makes sense and I would really like it if this was implemented. So, what do you guys think?
