Need help to add Guest Map (Java Script) Code

Post by Mordheimer on October 21st 2011, 3:56 pm

Hi! I manage the forum www.DeathSquadsGame.com and we have used for some time a nice little map that allow visitors to place markers (pins) on a global map. The free map service (up to 500 pins) can be found at http://www.mapservices.org/myguestmap. Mapservices.org indicates that by using this Java Script I can embed the map on a website.
Code:

    <script src='http://www.mapservices.org/myguestmap/javascripts/guestmap.js' type='text/javascript'></script>
    <script type='text/javascript'>
      show_guestmap(963, 590, 'Mordheimer');
    </script>

I also found another site that lets you track the visitors you had on the last 24 hours. The code is:
Code:

<a href="http://www.sitevisitormaps.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://m.sitevisitormaps.com/21897.png" style="border:0;" /></a><br clear=all /><a href="http://www.webhostingpol.com">best web hosting</a>

The codes seems pretty straight forward, but I have no idea how to add any of them to the forum's page itself. I would like to learn how I can show the maps on a specific page in the forum (http://www.deathsquadsgame.com/t768-where-are-you-located), as I would like our community to see their growth.

Please help! Specific (clear, noobie-like) instructions would be appreciated. THANKS!

The code is HTML, so include it wherever the admin panel will accept HTML. For examplem widgets, announcements, homepage message. Or for the use your wanting you'd be best with it in a HTML page. Or in that topic.

If you allow HTML in topics, then just put that code in a post.

But how do I add the HTML code on the forum itself? I can't simply copy/paste it.

Why can't you copy and paste it...?

Where EXACTLY do you want it... 'forum' is kind of vague... since that covers your whole site..

As I posted on the initial post, I would like the map to appear on a specific thread (http://www.deathsquadsgame.com/t768-where-are-you-located) only. I went to:

MODULE> HTML & JAVASCRIPT> Javascript codes management

There I created a new script and pasted the Java Script (as I did above). For placement, the choices I have are:
  • In the home page
  • In the portal
  • In the sub-forums
  • In the topics
  • In the gallery
  • In all the pages

How can I put the code in only ONE page (thread/topic)? I tried putting it in "In all the pages" but I did not saw the map anywhere.

You don't put it there.

You need to to just it IN THAT THREAD.
Literally put it in THE POST.

Along with your message, put that HTML...

And make sure HTML is enabled in the Admin Panel...

I tried writing the script (HTML) in the post... nothing. Where do I make sure that the HTML is enabled in the Admin Panel?

General > Messages & Emails > Configuration > Allow HTML.

Which will mean HTML is allowed in posts. Meaning yo can put your code into a post.

Yes... I have it ON. It is weird. I put the code, and when I submit I just get the code (as text). This is the same thing that happens if I Switch the post's Editor Mode.
Code:
    <script src='http://www.mapservices.org/myguestmap/javascripts/guestmap.js' type='text/javascript'></script>
    <script type='text/javascript'>
      show_guestmap(963, 590, 'Mordheimer');
    </script>

I can create an HTML page (as I mentioned above) and paste the code there. it works fine. Look... http://www.deathsquadsgame.com/h1-community-map

I would like the map to appear on the post.
