Banning Proxy Servers pt3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Streuth, this is where my patience really does start to wear very thin indeed!!
Katt. Time differences aside, can we have some straight answers here please, or do I have to get all four of my admin in here too, to get the point across?!!
How do we ban proxy servers from our forum please? This is the 3rd time I have asked this and other questions pertaining to trouble making trolls on our forum, and to date the advice proffered has been next to ruddy useless.
You told me initially that you could not handle my enquiry, that I should contact your 'juridical body', what on earth that means is anyones guess. At last you gave me the profile of someone to pm my concern. I did so. What did I get from that? Diddly fat squat, that's what!! He told me he does not do this anymore and that if I wanted answers I should contact you for assistance.
So where on this merry go round are we going next?
Last time I wrote you upon this matter, I told you that quite possibly the FBI would be getting involved, since one of our forum guests had received threats online from this same troll, threatening to interfere with her personal family life.
Now, in the time that absolutely nothing has been done here, one of my own administrators, a lovely lady I know personally from Oregon USA, this morning at 0915hrs received herself a threatening telephone call from this same troll. She has now contacted the telephone company to get a tracer put on the line and contacted the FBI for internet harrassment and stalking.
When are you Katt going to start taking this problem seriously? When are you going to deal with the issue, or are you again going to sweep the whole matter underneath the carpet?
Is there no-one with any clout, that I can communicate with upon these serious issues that I raised first, weeks ago.
Yours Faithfully

Re: Banning Proxy Servers pt3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Celty, its obvious Katt doesn't care. If I were you I'd contact the FBI. Editboard Staff would have some explaining to do then.
Also, have you actually banned this user? I looked on your forum and hes made 3000 posts!
EDIT:
Ok that 3000 was from last week, so it seems most of his posts have been deleted but you haven't banned this user "evil_force" because his most recent post was yesterdayand I told you last week to ban him.

How do you mean I don't care ??? I don't have the competencies in rights and laws, I studied in Language Arts, not in Rights ! And having difficulties to sort it out worries me sick, and last time, I was about to cry !
I contacted another person who's good in laws and I hope she speaks English, because we're right inside exam periods. One of the juridical consultants has exams. Another fell seriously ill last October and he's still recovering (cerebrovascular accident), and the third one has to handle everything alone on the French side and I don't know if he's at ease with english.
Re: Banning Proxy Servers pt3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOTE: By no means is what I am about to post considered legal advice. It is only my personal opinions/suggestions.
If the threat to livelihood has been made, then this situation could be deemed as one that goes above and beyond the Editboard staff. Have you sought legal advice from local authorities? If you have not yet, or would like to form some sort of plan-of-action before doing so, then perhaps these 2 sites could help you:
It would probably help to mention Editboard's Information (upon board creation) and Terms of Service/Acceptable Use Policy and your own site's Registration Agreement Terms so that those that wish to help you may have a better understanding of your legal standing.
As for dealings with Editboard, I am not sure what could be done except to either 1) push and wait for the technicians to come up with more and better options to ban harassment (i.e. the request to ban proxy servers) or 2) leave Editboard to create a new forum with a new host. If you do go to court with this individual, you may ask Editboard to speak on your behalf. But for them to best help you, then it is in your best interest to keep as much evidence as you can collect to submit for Editboard staff's review.
I found Katt's reply to this issue in the first thread titled "Banning Proxy Servers, Multiple Log Ins":
I really hope that all this helps. If I was going through the same situation as you are, I would wish for as much support as possible. Also, please update the rest of us. That way, if we fall under the same misfortune, we may know what to do.

It seems that this person is also harassing the other members via private messages. If you have not done so already, then perhaps notify your members to forward copies of those messages to you? If they are too numerous for you to keep in your own account (which does not seem to be a far fetched assumption given how you have described this person), then perhaps create a separate account specifically for the purpose of holding evidence.Katt wrote:Hello.
I asked my ex-colleague who's good in juridical stuff and here are his advices.
1-
Set up the account activation to Admin (Administration panel >
General Admin > Configuration > User activation >
Administrator), so you will choose to activate the accounts or not. You
will see the non-activated users in Admin Panel > User Admin >
Inactive users.
2- If he continues, ban, ban and ban.
3-
And eventually, you can lodge a complaint at a police station. For
this, keep all the proofs (IPs, date, hours and timezone when he
posted) by moving the offensive topics in a private section.
I really hope that all this helps. If I was going through the same situation as you are, I would wish for as much support as possible. Also, please update the rest of us. That way, if we fall under the same misfortune, we may know what to do.

Re: Banning Proxy Servers pt3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do these things:
1) Create a folder to put all his spam in
2) Go to the police and lodge an official complaint
3) Ban him from the forum

Re: Banning Proxy Servers pt3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The user was banned several times, however he would relog in with a proxy server and a different user name.
I have now resigned from the forum altogether and despite setting the forum up, have handed over the reins to my administrative team.
This past week, admin have been receiving anonymous telephone calls, we've been called board nazi's and many other vile and revolting names. If this had been dealt with professionally at the start, perhaps this situation would not have kept reoccurring. It's all history now.
The admin here I will say I found absolutely useless in helping us to get to the bottom of this, at best their assistance was woefully inadequate. The fact is, you are the hosts of these forums. Whilst the service is free, it is obvious that you make your money somehow, (advertising). To all intents and purposes, just because you are offering a free service, does not mean that you need to sidestep your users concerns. One would hope another time, you have learn't from this experience and that you would implement a proper strategy to deal with customers complaints and/or concerns properly in the future.
Yes the FBI were contacted in the end.
I also sought advice from Free Advice Forums.
Initially I wrote Katt, who seemed not at all bothered by my request, she said she could do nothing to help me, so she passed on to me, the details of someone else who also promptly told me he could not assist either, only then to be passed along to someone else. At which point I saw responsibility for this complaint being passed along and leading nowhere at all. In the UK we call it, passing the buck.
I do think you have a great thing going on here, I really do, and I appreciate what you are doing as well, never would I seek to discourage you from your goal, quite the opposite in fact, but you must understand, that a free or paid for service requires complete professionalism not amateurish answers when YOUR customers are raising SERIOUS concerns.
Happy Christmas!!

Re: Banning Proxy Servers pt3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you know what you're talking about?
Our users concerns are the reason this support forum exists.
I'm terribly sorry if you didn't find our assistance of any use.
We had asked all our juridical consultants for aivce, but unfortunately, most weren't avialiable. The moderators and juridical consultants are NOT payed and we also have our own problems.
As for Katt's concerns about the affair, I'm sorry to tell you she really took this affair at heart nd tried her absolute bestto try and find a soltion for you.
We don't have the necessary knowledges all the time (us moderators are recruted on forum management knowledge) and therefore for certain problems, we need to ask some people's advice...
You say you've contacted the FBI, I sincerely hope you're problems will end and that they'll be able to help you.
P.S; I lock this topic to avoid flood. If anyone has any questions, P.M me and I'll try to answer quickly
