Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
Hello,
We're launching today a new special offer : no need to start your forum from scratch anymore, just pick out an existing forum from our directory!
No more hassle finding users to post messages!
Same for the skin and categories, they're all already set up for you!
How does it work?
Simply check out our directory : http://www.board-directory.net
You see a forum that you like?
If the founder, admins and mods have been inactive for 6 months, it can be yours !
Need more details on the offer?
Contact me by PM, and specify the forum(s) that you are interested in :
https://help.forumotion.com/msg.forum?mode=post&u=6001
Best,
Forumotion Team

I think the admin should get an e-mail before hand. I will use me as an example. I moved to a new site but use my old one as an archive. So unless you plan to notify us, I see no good in it.

Precisely. The Admin needs to have some kind of warning, or control that their forum is being took over.
I could also see the system creating drama, such as when a forum is being took over the old Founder could try to spite it, who keeps the forum graphics, and so on.

@Everyone,
I am sure that Typlo had a back up plan for all of your comments,
Am sure that if someone requested a forum, then he would have sent an email to the founder, and if the founder doesn't reply or fails to do an action that was required for the founder to keep his/her forum, then Typlo will be able to give the forum to a new owner.
I don't like this, because someone can gain control of my PR2 test forum, but now that I know this, I will log in everyday on it,
And, I suggest you all do the same. I also kind of like this suggestion, because if someone is just taking up all of the good sub-domain names that forumotion offers just to make people sad, then this is where we come in to request them back.
If I am correct, the french members already have the ability to request for someone else's forum that is inactive. So why leave the english members out?

If they care about their forum, they will stay active on it. Just a simple login from 1 admin or mod every 6 months can save it.
Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
The thing is the graphics.
I make my own forum skins and i don't like the idea of claiming someone elses work and their graphics as their own.
Which is technically user copyright violations.
I don't care if the forum dead someone produced those graphics which could be the founder.

Im working at sea during 6-7 month. And I dont have a chance to connect my forum. When I`ll be back what can I see? That I dont have my forum (which I made for 2 years) anymore? I have almost 700 users and I can loose them.If they care about their forum, they will stay active on it.
No, its a very bad idea!

You spelt the title wrong it should be Premium
Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
Don't worry guys; the new update is currently being discussed in the staff room by the ForuMotion team. Our fellow Typlo might have some other strategy for this new update.

I don't like this idea either.
As Afina stated there are people who may not have access to a computer through work commitments, illness/injury or due to financial reasons.

Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
Typlo, was this throughly discussed? It appears the outcome has been more negative than positive.
For those who have test forums, don't put yourself onto the forums directory. Otherwise you will be logged and seen by all.

Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
What part are you people not seeing? Read what Typlo said: "If the founder, admins and mods have been inactive for 6 months, it can be yours !"
So if you have been signing in on test forums then you are being active.

Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
Test forum doesn't mean you have to sign on every day. It could be testing a new update, which rarely comes out. So, an inactive test forum is very common.
Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
And everyone complains about the slowness of FM, having a crap load of inactive forums don't help speed things up either.
Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
Lol, they do not correspond with each other.
Server =/= Database

Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
I'm confused.. I thought that the forums that will be available for others are the ones that have been deleted by their owners... then I read the comments and looks like it can be anyone's forum? sure I'm missing something.
Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
No, as long as the staff is inactive, unfortunately.Dino wrote:I'm confused.. I thought that the forums that will be available for others are the ones that have been deleted by their owners... then I read the comments and looks like it can be anyone's forum? sure I'm missing something.

Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
Oh dear! I have a second forum for some of my members who writer poetry. We have been inactive for some time. If I go and make sure there are posts continuing in the writer forum will it be in jeopardy of being taken from me?
You did say 6 months correct?

So, we have not to put any of our forums to directory. For those who have test forums, don't put yourself onto the forums directory. Otherwise you will be logged and seen by all.

Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
Master Marc did put it right, the original founder will be notified by e-mail.
If he doesn't answer within 2 weeks > the forum is given to the new founder.
The founder will still be able to claim back his forum one month after foundation change.
So that would give founder at least 7 months and 2 weeks to visit his forum.
And as a reminder, we're talking about forums where all staff is inactive for 6 months.

Re: Premium forums : pick out an existing forum from our directory!
This is outrageous and is property theft! There could be many reasons a forum is inactive for 6 months or more, like sickness or injury.
No one wants to put massive effort into a forum which can be confiscated at any time.
Cancel this abomination!
