The Code Button Feature

When using the [code][/code] tags how can I change the background color it provides for the code and the text color of the code itself in my CSS stylesheet. Right now it is a white background with a light blue text color which is barely readable. My forum overall has a black background and when using the code tags I would like the tag box background color that the code is in to be a different color, perhaps a dark blue color and the code text white.
