Music???

Post by Massey on December 15th 2005, 1:16 am

Hello ...

I was wondering whether we could add music to our forum, because I've seen many forums that when you enter their site, you can hear music (obviously if your speakers are on). So yeah ... that's my question, are we able to put music on our forum???

Thanks,
Massey

Adding music on your forum is possible, but it's hardly ruled.

Copyright and broadcast right must be payed.

I have links for french organisms, but not else.

So when your will have payed these rights, you'll have to do these manipulations :

- Upload your music file on a server.
- Insert the next code in a portal bloc, the homepage or a forum description.
Code:
<!-- DEBUT LECTEUR MUSIQUE -->
<div align="center">
<table id="table1" style="BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" bordercolor="#000000" height="180" cellpadding="5" width="310" border="0">
<tbody>
<tr><td bordercolor="#000000">
<table id="table2" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="100%" border="0">
<tbody>
<tr><td></td>
<td width="120">
<p align="center"> </p></td></tr></tbody></table>
<p align="center">
<embed name="MediaPlayer" pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/MediaPlayer/" src=" music's URL" width="300" height="50" type="application/x-mplayer2" autostart="1" showstatusbar="1" volume="-1"></embed></embed /> </p></td></tr></tbody></table></div>
<!-- FIN LECTEUR MUSIQUE -->
You'll have to change "music's URL with the adress of your hosted music file.

I hope I'm clear enough. Wink

The best choice is to have a pro FTP account (like Tripod.com), because most free FTP servers don't allow hotlinking. On pro FTP servers, the account admin can choose to authorize hotlinking or not, depending of the monthly bandwidth he pays.

Yep it's normal, in the code given, you have to change

Code:
src=" music's URL"

By your own music's url Wink

Hey,

I have a question regarding music on a forum.

Are we allowed to use Walmart's 30 second previews? I know a lot of places did that but I did not know if it was OK....

Hello

You can't put a music url directly from your hard drive.

Imageshack-style direct host can't be used to embed music, they don't allow hotlink (direct linking).

The only way is to use a FTP account. Your Internet Service Provider generally privides you a personal Web space you can use.

And finallly, a very important notice : The music you want to put must be free of rights! Popular songs are generally protected by copyright. So, if you aren't sure, you'd better not to put it, because you may have problems if you put copyrighted stuff.

And in a général way, unless you have a granted use of some titles with a licence, or unless the music is yours, otherwise it is forbiden to put any kind of music on a forum at all.

If you get caught, you may have the rest of your life reduced to nothing because of the fine you would get.

So what ever you want to do in a way of music, always ask a agreement, and or a license .......... OR DONT DO IT !! or else the judge will sing you another kind of music you will hate.
