Can I preorder a domain

I was looking at buying a domain that is currently in use and is about to expire. It says it is on backorder is there a way to keep my current domain in case i dont get the other domain?

The only way to keep your current domain is to not let the renewal period lapse. There is no option to preorder a domain name which is already in use.
