Forum's Search Function is broken...

Greetings everyone!

I'm having the following problem for a while now: The search function in the "Profile" Section is not working properly. If you take a look at the screenshot below...



If you click on either of the indicated search options
- Find all topics started by XXX
- Topics
- Posts
you always get the "No topics or posts met your search criteria" message even though the user in question has made many posts and started many topics. I'm unsure of what's wrong but hope this can be fixed somehow.

Is this just happening with this member or all members?

Ah sorry my bad as I forgot to clarify this! In fact it happens with all other members. Also this problem does exist for all members as well.

I should add that the only exception is my admin account BUT in that case it only works if I search for my own postings as admin and doesn't work when searching for any other member's postings/topics as then I get the above mentioned message.

Try resynchronizing your forum:
Administration Panel > General > Forum > Configuration
Misc Options Section
Resynchronize your forum :

I've tried resynchronizing the forum but sadly enough the problem is annoyingly persistent.

I've also quickly checked whether the search function works using a normal account and found out that it ONLY does work when I look for posts/topics done with the "Admin" account, but not with any other administrator, moderator or member account (not even with the one I logged in with to give this a try). This problem really puzzles me.

Did you recently changed forum versions or themes, add any new codes, or modified anything on the forum?

No the forum version is the same since the foundation of the forum. The theme has practically been up and running since the start as well with only minor changes.

Template-wise I've made changes but if I remember correctly forummotion did some updates or made some changes code-wise (I'd say roughly about a year ago but I might be wrong there) and that was about the time the search function ceased working. Had it happened right after a template fiddling on my part I'd immediately known that it must have been my doing that messed this up.

We all hoped it would start working eventually but it never did and with some of our members asking for the feature to work again I thought I go ahead and try to find a fix.

Thanks for your efforts and help slg, it's greatly appreciated. No worries it's been broken for a while so there's no immediate rush.

Oh and the changes that were made must have happened round the "15.05.2011" as this was first time one of our members reported the problem to me. Maybe this will help.

I've activated the advanced profile for users, and now it seems to works fine
Can't really say why it doesn't work properly with the simple profile, but I'll try to know.

Anyway, your problem's fixed now

Yes it really seems to work with the advanced profile. While I prefer the simple one I'm glad this works again. Though I've to say it is a strange bug. Hope you solve the puzzle why it only works with the advanced setting - please keep me posted about any progress as this problem intrigues me.
