Can I get some help pointing my domain at my forum?
Hi guys.
I have a private domain, and I'm trying to set it up properly but to no avail. I've read the tuts on this site, but they don't really make any sense to me. So basically, I want my private domain to point to be my used domain for forumotion, and not my free one. How do I go about this? The homepage of my site is the portal page BTW.
Thanks in advance for replies

Hello,
What do you mean by private domain? If it's acquired outside of Forumotion, please read this tutorial:
https://help.forumotion.com/t7021-redirect-an-extern-domain-name-that-you-own-to-your-board

Hi.
Thanks for the reply.
I did try to follow those instructions, but I just can't seem to get it to work. They don't really make sense to me. I try to make a CNAME entry, but there is not CNAME Alias option. And there is only one space for a URL. So do I put the domain with www. into the box? Should I be putting my free URL or my paid domain in that box?
Thanks for the reply.

The tutorial already gives the complete steps on how to install an external domain name, though I will forward this to our pro administrator as she is the most likely to answer your problem.ribena_wrath wrote:Hi.

Hello,
As it's said in the tutorial, you have to fill your forum's address in the CNAME record.
I can try to help you, but we're not really able to bring you some support for another registrar as we're not supposed to know their Control Panel.
Anyway, can you please provide a screenshot of your CNAME configuration page ?

The .co.uk domain names are really particular and aren't working everytime with our forums.
From what I see, the configuration seems to be good but you need to confirm it with your registrar.
Thank you !

Ok, well in my admin panel I get this error message. It won't let me add the forum address there!
Also can I ask why .co.uk domains don't work with your software?
(mods please don't book me for double posts here, I'm just updating my pervious question, it's not a flood)

Re: Can I get some help pointing my domain at my forum?
Because of the double extensions which is considered as a sub-domains by the system and causes some issues

Re: Can I get some help pointing my domain at my forum?
Hmm ok.
Well I have used the domain with the site before, but it never worked as well as I wanted it to. That's why I was editing it again.
Basically, I was had the .co.uk domain pointing at my forum, and that part of it worked. But for some reason it didn't include www. in the emails. So when users get emails, instead of www.mydomain.co.uk they get a link for mydomain.co.uk. It was really frustrating because it never worked, and members had to manually put the link into their browser whenever they got mail.
So to remedy this, I just purchased a new .net domain. I'm waiting for it to activate. And when it's activated I'd like it to be our primary domain. But I'd also like to use our .co.uk domain for the time being, to phase it out properly. I'd like the .co.uk to point at our .net one. Possible?
Thanks again for your help

Re: Can I get some help pointing my domain at my forum?
When the .net domain name will be available, I think it should be possible to make a simple redirection (not a CNAME record).
You need to check it in your Control Panel or by asking to your registrar's support.
