Two people say forum's running slow for them Empty Two people say forum's running slow for them

Post by Brianman23 February 20th 2013, 6:44 pm

Started with one and now today another says she's having the same problem. One is in Serbia and the other America. The forum runs fine for me and so far only these two seem to have this problem. They've cleared their history (or cache whatever you want to call it) but it still goes back and forth from running fine to running slow for them.

My forum is www.our4tnz.com

I've been experiencing that too on all the forums that use the toolbar, I think its related to the toolbar somehow.

I think upon launch the toolbar was causing issues and possibly making some forums run slow. However, I think its running much better now. I'd give a few days then ask your members if they think the forums are running slow. Also it could just be with them, did you not say it was only two members having the issue?

Ask around and see if it is widespread.

Hi,

Every forum that I've notice or visit seems to be working perfectly, at first it was pretty slow, but it seems that there isn't really a problem anymore.

If anything, it may be the users' internet connect or browser acting real slow, suggest them this:

I switched the router off for 15 seconds then switched it back on again, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. It takes about 40 seconds for a page to complete loading.

Strange, it takes me about 2 seconds for each tab on your forum to load, and that's with a 3/5 bar signal.

The page itself loads quickly enough, it's the images contained in the posts that are taking ages to open. If you look at the browser tab, the wee favicon shows as a "busy" signal for nearly a full minute...

Well the favicon was taking awhile to load, I would suggest uploading it to another host. Just google "favicon host" or "ico host" to find another one, I use my other website to host the ico image I use for the forum, but there are a lot of places that will host them for free, some are obviously faster than others. You need a host that allows "Hot linking" or "remote linking".

Your images in the forum are loading at a steady fast pace I'm having no problems in that regard, it could be the image host these pictures that are loading slow for you are on a slow server. Do you know what host the images are on that are loading slow for you?

The favicon I'm using is the wee smiley face which is one of the Forumotion default ones. AP.General>Forum>Configuration...https://illiweb.com/fa/favicon/smiley.ico
so I don't think the favicon will be the cause.
Re the image host concerned, I've no idea which one it is because NONE of the images show until the busy signal has finished. (Approx 40 seconds to 1 minute).

I use servimg plus Photobucket and who knows which sites the members use, plus a lot of images are just "right-clicked" from the web and pasted into the image icon.

I'm in Scotland, but I have a member in Tenerife who has just complained about the time the pages are taking to load.

I have just deleted all the "Attachments" to see if that would make a difference, but it doesn't look like it. Sad

Well if you're using firefox like your profile says just right-click on the image and select "View Image" and that will open the image so you can view it and also see the url where it is hosted at.

Serving and photobucket are fast and having no problems at this time from my end.

I would suggest its your internet connection from your area that is having trouble right now.

In short, all seems normal on your forum.

Thanks Runawayhorses, it's just that one member in Tenerife also complained how slow it was but it may just be coincidence. I'll leave this open for another 24 hrs to see if it resolves itself. If it does, I'll come back and mark as "solved".

Edit: OK, 3 hours later and it's still happening, but only on our forum. All other external websites are opening fine. i.e. BBC News, Telegraph, Facebook etc. It's only doing it on here. Something is not right on the forum.

Forum link: www.tenerifesforumoffun.com If you need admin access please say and I'll PM.

Edit: Tried other browsers-

Safari: 55 seconds
Chrome: 20 seconds
IE9: 20 seconds
Firefox: 40 seconds
Opera: I gave up after 80 seconds.

As I say, it's only on this site guys.
Additional info: Avatars and images in Signatures show immediately. It's only images in the "posts" that take so long.

More info: It seems like it is an image hosting site used by skin designer: www.upload-your-life.com

This is what is causing the busy signal to stay on for so long. When I click on that link, I get this message after abiut 40 seconds...

Sorry to hear you're still having problems, but this is not your topic to bump or mark solved, you are not the topic starter.

I really think its your location because it doesn't appear that your problem is happening to anyone else at this time. But hopefully Leeloo will be back on Monday and can look into this for you.

OK. I have resolved this on my own. The Hitskin theme designer used an image hosting site called "Upload-your-life.com". This site is not working. I have trawled through my CSS and removed all background images related to this site. My site is now back to normal with a 1-2 second load speed.
Thank you for replying Runawayhorses, your help was appreciated. Very Happy
