Does someone know how to differentiate the colours of posts so that one is darker than the other?

As it is right now, the post backgrounds are too similar to each other, so it makes it hard to tell one post from the next.
Is there a code that will allow me to change post colours to make them easier to differentiate? I need one that's much darker followed by a whiter one.

Okay but now it's changed every topic in the categories to both colours. I just wanted the posts in the threads, not the threads themselves...

Yeah, I know they both have the same id. I don't know if I can change them separately,
