Support Forums Issue --> Being logged out and unable to log in.
First topic message reminder :
I have had this issue happen once before, yesterday but I thought nothing of it because it happened for a short period of time. However today it lasted a good 5-10 minutes.
I was browsing the support forums and I clicked onto go edit something in my profile and suddenly for no reason at all it took me to the log in page. I entered my log in information and clicked to continue. I was redirected to the same log in page I was previously at. However I was not given an error message saying I had entered an invalid password or username.
I then deiced to re-enter my username and password again and again, I got the same issue I was redirected to the log in page I was on but I was given no error message. I continued to try this but nothing was happening other than me being redirected to this log in page.
I then decided to request a new password, I entered my email and username and clicked to continue, the same thing happened above, I was refreshed and taken to the same page I was on and I had no error message.
I then tried to request a new password two more times, both resulting in what I described above.
I then out of a complete loss of what to do I clicked on the banner to take me back to the main board and somehow it logged me in randomly and I had access to my account. I then clicked my profile to go in and do what I intended to do and I found myself in the same situation I described at the start. It was saying I wasn't logged in.
I then entered my log in details again and got no error message, but I was redirected like I described above at the start of this message. I then clicked the banner a few times refreshing and I was suddenly logged into my account again and this time it let me stay logged in.
Overall this was very unusual and I was wondering what might have caused this. If anyone would care to maybe assist me in finding out why this might have happened.
Thank you.

Re: Support Forums Issue --> Being logged out and unable to log in.
Add me to the list of affected users. I just mention it to add to the notation for you if it helps.
My symptoms are like everyone else's already posted. I've been on IE when it's happened. Only on this site in my experience. Like Slevester, I tend to stay logged in & just close the browser when I'm done.
I'm not bothered by closing the browser & trying back in a few minutes. I don't have to log in at all if it's working, it just comes back.
Feel bad for you, Derri. It seems to really like you. LOL! good luck with this

Re: Support Forums Issue --> Being logged out and unable to log in.
Good to know I wasn't the only one who was affected by this 'Log Out' bug yesterday. I was using Quick Reply in that thread about the new Editor Mode at the time. I did not detect any problems beforehand. Not even when I used Preview to see how my post would look using this new Editor Mode the Support Forum has now. It was working fine. But as soon as I hit Send, I was taken to another page and was informed that I could not post.
Even when I hit the back button, at the bottom of the page, under Permissions In This Forum, it said that I could not reply to topics in this forum. That's when I noticed that I was logged out automatically. I figured the problem was tied to this new Editor.
So I tried logging back in and the page looked way different and that's where the hang kept taking place. I took the usual steps in cases like this. I still encountered this problem as others before me have described. I did not ask for a new password to resolve this though.
What I did do was de-check that little box to Automatically Log In and voila! I was in. I left it de-checked but somehow it re-checked itself.

The whole reason I asked that was because I was wondering if not logging out was part of the problem. It made sense yesterday when I asked but now... It seems to make less sense to me and I'm not so sure. Who knows though.
As for just refreshing to get back in... I haven't tried that yet. But from the sounds of it, it doesn't mater if you refresh or try to log in normally, it will still keep you out for up to ten minutes. And when logging in it seems to refresh anyway...

Anyway it hasn't happened today yet but it happened three times yesterday. I only just got on though so we shall see.

Re: Support Forums Issue --> Being logged out and unable to log in.
meh, I just figured it was an interesting question you asked & doesn't hurt to add it just in case. Yeah, who knows?
And my impression of the event is it doesn't matter if you try to log in or not, it's simply not responding. Changing or refreshing pages is probably your best bet. (Or closing & re-opening the browser.)
But I hate to think of people trying to reset password for this issue. In my opinion that's a whole lotta wasted effort. Until Forumotion fixes whatever is causing the error, all we can do is wait until the site sees us again. :|
At least, in my opinion. My 2 cents
oh and ...
Again, this suggests the site isn't responding. I'm guessing you would have gotten in again even without de-checking the box. The site never knew you even tried to de-check it & that's why it went back to the way it was before. Input is simply not recognized. (aparently lol)

LOL I just replied in another thread today and I got logged out. I clicked on the Home button and it corrected the Guest issue. For some reason, the server makes us Guests temporarily while technically still logged in. That would explain why I saw it re-check the Automatic Log-In box.

It happened to me yesterday but I didn't have your fortitude. I just presumed it was part of the nonsense and I went away again. Been all right today.

Re: Support Forums Issue --> Being logged out and unable to log in.
Happened to me again today too. I tried your idea of un-checking the Auto-login box, Captain, but it didn't help. (Worth a shot
) I also had a chance to try another browser (Google Chrome) this time, again to no avail. The only thing that seemed to help was time. I waited & eventually got back in.
I seem to recall something exactly like this happening a long time ago on a completely other site. (not FM) It happened around the same time they had updated the entire website. I'm sorry to say I don't recall exactly how it was resolved. But I do remember it was on their end. It was a malfunction with the site itself, not the users.
I don't know what this would have to do with the new text editor, but it seems to me that is a recent change. And this thread was started right around the same time. So possibly looking into any ties there might be worthwhile?

Re: Support Forums Issue --> Being logged out and unable to log in.
This problem began some time before the new editor, I would say a week or so... Otherwise that would be my presumption. I don't know if they started making minor changes to prepare for the text editor before hand that may have caused this... but otherwise I think they are unrelated.

Well, the problem was first reported by the author of this thread on May 13th. That's over a month ago. I know I encountered some weird bugs back then and being it a rare occurrence I dismissed it offhand. Those in charge of this forum would need to ask the Devs if, by chance, the Devs were tweaking with the support forum in May. I think it's something worth knowing in my humble opinion.
On the bright side, this latest problem has allowed me to modify my Notifications. lol 60 notifications for a Watched Topic per day? That's a lot. So thank you for reminding me to correct that issue.

The problem was reported even before May, when Leeloo was around. The cause of the problems was not found then, although we have already asked for a status on the Problem from The Godfather now.Selvester wrote:This problem began some time before the new editor, I would say a week or so... Re: Support Forums Issue --> Being logged out and unable to log in.
It's getting quite frequent now...
The /login.php script is probably rejecting $_POST data for whatever reason.
Maybe a backdoor for the devs of FM to instantly lock the login script, as in, a comment that should have been a comment, was being interpretated on request and was forgotten to be out-commented again? I don't know, I'm just guessing right now.

This happened to me yesterday and the day before that. I'm wondering if its because the server is getting too many requests at the same time.

Re: Support Forums Issue --> Being logged out and unable to log in.
No, the server sends out the form just fine, but somewhere within the .php file there's a direct redirect to /login without even considering the data passed to it as mentioned somewhere above, incorrect input isn't evaluated, either.
