Porn pop ups
Hi.
As per this thread:https://help.forumotion.com/t117880-pop-ups
The porn pop ups have been happening again in smartphones. This time with really explicit photographs. I have asked the posters to do screenshots but I'm not entirely sure you'd want to see them! Obviously we have to wait for it to happen again too.
It happened on a page refresh when a poster was sitting with her young daughter, not something that we want happening.
Is there anything we can do to stop this happening?
Thanks.

Re: Porn pop ups
Hi. I wasn't going to. In any case I don't yet have any screen shots. Is there any way of knowing why this is happening? Is it likely to be a user issue or a forumotion issue?

Re: Porn pop ups
It sounds more like an issue on the user side. If it was on the Forumotion side, there would be more members complaining about it.

Re: Porn pop ups
There are about ten people at least on our forum who have complained about this happening to them recently which perhaps suggests otherwise? They are wanting a solution to this as we are a mother/baby forum so his kind of hung is grossly inappropriate.

Yes I know you meant other forums. Any suggestions as to what we can do? It's causing a great deal of anguish for our members. They understandably don't want to see these images popping up, as has happened in front of their children.

For right now, I would inform your members to not visit the forum with their children until the issue is solved.

Re: Porn pop ups
What's your forum link.
I doubt it is any ad's from forumotion, but will not hurt for us to go there and see if it happens to us.
Other then that not much we can do until we see screen shots of the ad/pop ups and link they are leading to. Be sure to send this in pm to a staff member.
Also have you added any new coding or scripts, sometimes things like this can be caused by using certain scripts or coding. Even certain image host if a image is not selected for family safe content?
So please do keep us informed and be sure you or any members can get a screen shot and the link it is leading to if possible .

Is this only occurring with mobile devices?

Re: Porn pop ups
Hi,
Thank you.
As far as I'm aware it's happening on iPhones/iPads but also android devices too. I'm not 100% sure if it's happened on laptops/pcs. I'll double check.
I haven't got any screenshots yet but will ask for them to be sent to me and pass them on to you.
We haven't changed any coding or anything, I don't even think any of us know how to!
Our URL is: thebirdsandthebs.forumotion.net
Thank you for your help.

Re: Porn pop ups
The birds and the b's ?
Well i am not getting anything on my ipod accept the outside of the forum/log in page.
So no way for us to check anything unless you have some forums open to guest? do you have any widgets in place, is your forums HTML enabled? Also is there any particular place the pop-ups happen in, like a certain thread or post, or index of the forum.
If you have widgets i would disable them for now. Also if you have your forums HTML enabled then i would disable that as well.
Depending where this is happening it could be some sort of HTML coding that someone added to a Post or thread, or may be something in a widget.
I cant help thinking with the name, theme, and subject matter of your forum, that this may be someones idea of a sick joke, Of course i am just assuming? there really is no way for us to know without seeing the pop-ups ourself or being able to see the forums etc.
So yeah if you have the forums HTML enabled then disable it, also disable any widgets you may have temporally as well, You know if the pop-ups seems to only happen in certain post or threads, after the HTML is disabled go back and check in all members replies, if there was a code placed by someone in a thread or post it will then show when HTML is no longer enabled.
Thats all i can think of for now, once again i am only able to view the outside of the forum so have no way of seeing what may be what.

Yeah i dont think it is anything to do with the forumotion ad's.
forumotion would never have a adult/porn pop-up ad, plus forumotion dose not have any pop-ups ad's only flash or text banners.
I have not seen anything pop up for me, so will have to wait and see if they are able to get screen shots or find something that someone may have posted on the forum etc...

for info, as sayed, forumotion never ever have a adult/porn ads neither any pop-up ads. must be a script on your computer or browser cookies that generate that
however, please provide to a staff member the target url of the indicated porn ads + full screenshot of the problem so we can investigate

Re: Porn pop ups
Haven't managed to get URLs or any evidence yet.
The person who it happened to (and there have been others previously) informs me that it's on an iPad that has never ever accessed adult material of any kind before. Furthermore it's not actually a pop up, it happened when a page was refreshed or a link to a thread clicked on and the browser goes to a completely new website, not opening a new page but taking the page used to the porn site.
When it happened to me on iPhone it took my safari to a new 'local' porn page (ie it it knew where I lived) and to get rid of it I had to shut down all safari as the back button or 'x' didn't work.
So, how's this happening if no previous adult material has been accessed? I can assure you I've not accessed adult material on my iPhone yet it happened to me a while back. I have a photo of what happened to me another time, not a porn one so I'll post that but the porn one was similar.

Re: Porn pop ups
It looks like an ad from Apple not a Forumotion ad.

Re: Porn pop ups
yeah thats something from apple. But there has to be some kind of script on the page for those kinds of ad's to come up on iphones, ipods, ipad. may be even other mobile devices as well.
What is the URL to the forum page you was on when that came up.
I will see if it comes up for me on my ipod then try to determine where it may be coming from/what it is?

Re: Porn pop ups
That Ad looks like apple yes, but the porn sites? Doubt it!
I can't remember the URL to that specific photo as this one was months ago. Furthermore our forum is a closed forum in which case is have to provide you with log in details temporarily. But you can see it gives my location, the porn ones the same.
People have had this happen on laptops too, so it can't be a mobile device issue solely.
I guess we'll have to see if it happens again.
