(Only Topic!) New Editor
First topic message reminder :
Is there a way to opt of this new editor? If not is there a way to at least set the smiley's back to the old way. They are hard to see even with the mouse over feature. Any member we have with poor eye sight will not be able to use them. I ware glasses and it's hard for me to make head nor tails on the smileys.
Thanks in advance for a quick reply.
Edit:
A few solutions for the problems.

To add an image to the text editor, add this to your CSS:
- Code:
.sceditor-container iframe, .sceditor-container textarea {
background-image: url("IMAGE'S URL") !important;
background-position: center center !important;
background-repeat: no-repeat !important;
}

Serenity Blades wrote:Richardr wrote:Members of our forum detest the ridiculous text-coloring selection layout. Most of the colors have practically indentical twins/triplets, which is pointless and makes it hard to distinguish between colors.
Would something like this help?
- Code:
.sceditor-color-option:hover:after{
width:20px;
height:20px;
display:block;
background:inherit;
content:" ";
position:absolute;
top:-24px;
left:2px;
border:1px solid #FFF}
Thanks for that, but the whole layout itself is still bizarre. And there's too many unnecessary, quasi-duplicate colors.

It has to do with where members position their typing. If you post directly under the quote, you won't end up with big spaces.

Re: (Only Topic!) New Editor
Has anything changed with the actual BB codes? I'm having massive problems with tables with background images in posts. Everything works normally if I manually enter
and hit post, but if I edit, quote, or otherwise touch the post the editor deletes the background part of the code so all that it shows is
and consequently it doesn't work. We use backgrounds on tables quite frequently, so its playing havoc atm.
A secondary problem is that the [size=xx] is not displaying properly, but I can live with that one for the time being.

[table background=whatever]...

Re: (Only Topic!) New Editor
Found another little glitch. When posting an image using the Insert Image icon there is a http:// already there. This is a doubling up of what is already on the URL of your image, especially if you are using a photo storage site such as Picasa or Google+ web albums or Photobucket. It can be corrected by removing it but having to pass this tip on to members can be time-consuming, especially if they don't read announcements. Grr
Also is there a way, such as some CSS code, which can remove the width x height boxes in the Insert Image window? The maximum photo size in my forum is pre-set & I would prefer it that way as many don't understand how to set these themselves. Our members post many images & I would like it to remain as easy as it was for them to continue to do that as previously.

The "little glitch" with the url in place is also in the icon for youtube videos. They will need to remove the http there as well.
I don't know about removing the size boxes for images but they don't need to fill anything in there as that is optional. Just post the url in the first box and their image will post without a problem (using your pre-set sizes).

Re: (Only Topic!) New Editor
Thanks RedMomma. Yes, I know this, but some of my members may not realise it, unfortunately.
The reason I would like to be able to remove the size boxes is because even though it says optional some members may think it is compulsory or advised. I don't want that at all. There was a way of removing the "Reasons for editing" box using CSS & I was hoping one of our brilliant IT helpers may have worked out a code for this.

Re: (Only Topic!) New Editor
One of our members encountered an interesting problem. I am going to quote her:
Was this option intended for circumstances like hers? Is this new editor not compatible with older systems? She found that typing and seeing nothing in the post was rather disconcerting so I asked her to post what happened so I could ask here.
Samt03 wrote:Mel asked me to post, so here goes.
I'm on an older back up computer with older browser.
Windows XP from around 2005
Running FireFox version 4.0.1 with flash plugs that have no been updated in about 2-3 years.
It's that outdated, but for some stuff I need this old browser.
The fancy updates will not let me post on forums.
To be able to post with it I noticed at the end of the options there's what looks like a piece of paper, hovering the mouse over it pops up the option 'Switch Editor Mode' when I hit this it looks like it disabled the flash (not sure) but it's now letting me type like normal and showing all of the BBC I'm using so I can edit it myself. When I leave the forum this older editor mode(?) stays on allowing me to post when I wish. I can hit the paper icon again and it turns back on the new fancy editor, which again takes away my ability to post.
Simple version, paper looking thing, click it if you are having trouble typing messages on here now.

Don't try this code, it will show you the smileys at 100% zoom. You might wanna see them big, but the smileys box has no scroll bar so adding this code the smileys box will become huge, will be very hard to scroll the whole page to find the smiley you want.

Before I start, my iPod had crashed twice already while writing this message because of this editor.
Can any of the techs or godfathers or whatever confirm that we'll have a 'Remove the editor that is full of bugs and doesn't let you post' option?
It's getting a little bit ridiculous now.

Re: (Only Topic!) New Editor
You need to make the editor to where it is more compatible with my old scripts! I had so many cool featured ruined by this. Please consider working out this issue. It pretty much ruined half my website. I really hate this update just saying.
Re: (Only Topic!) New Editor
Please be patient with me. I am the caretaker admin for my forum (the forum owner is on extended sick leave and is not contactable) and am technology illiterate.
Since the change to a new messages editor our forum's textbox is a wide but very narrow box with no icons across the top. No access to font styles etc, smilies or links - just a plain outline box. We have the PhpBB2 type forum so after reading the announcement I went looking for templates to change the code if necessary. Unfortunately my ignorance of how the forum works has now come to the fore and I cannot find where they (the template) are. I have spent several hours today looking around the admin panel but even if the section I need is staring me in the face I am just not seeing it, sorry!
Can you help me to set this up properly for my forum? Thank you in advance....
Tanya

Serenity Blades wrote:Sir Chivas™ wrote:
Please both of you guys refrain from using color font, as is only reservered for moderation just like in this thread.
I'm sorry I have done so. However, it is because of this new editor that it happened. Otherwise, it would just be the default color it should be.
WYSIWYG is very annoying as the default.
Yes, I REALLY wish this could be fixed.
Colored text are VERY important on my forums, and I just tried to post a standard one there...I almost rage quit the whole thing, there's so much additional and needless color/font coding added.
Copy/pasting colored fonts are a great idea, but then it doesn't go back to the standard color unless you copy/paste some of the original text without color.
And my forum font color is something you have to find through hex code. That's a HUGE pain to manually go in and change.
And why does there need to be a repeat of the fonts you use?
There's a reason it's already referenced in the admins area. It's just a bunch of needless code mucking up my posts.
Please, is there a fix for this?
This will really make or break my forum usage.
I just want to get rid of the font code repetition and see if there's an easier way to go back to forums' default color without referencing the forums' hex color code for it.
Just an example of how much color changing a standard post at my forum has to do:
We need a cleaner and simpler way to change those colors.
EDIT:
Okay, so after some messing about, I can deal without having to alter the color system so far.
I just really don't feel the repeated fonts for every line serves a purpose.

Re: (Only Topic!) New Editor
Greetings!
I have a forum at http://aflite.darkbb.com, and the Text Editor has completely disappeared for myself and my users.
When attempting to make posts, there is a text box, but no Editor, as shown here:
https://2img.net/h/oi39.tinypic.com/73fh95.jpg (linked due to large resolution)
My forum is pretty basic, and I've not been editing templates. In fact, when I try to go into the Templates > Profile, it says that Template Management has expired and I'm not allowed to edit the template. I clicked the link to Restore Default Templates, but that hasn't helped restore the editor. I'm pretty sure I'm using phpBB, but I'm not sure if it's 2 or 3.
I went into the CSS Stylesheet as some others have suggested, and I don't see the suggested items to change within the stylesheet.
I've tried clearing out my browser cache (Firefox 21), but that hasn't changed anything either. For what it's worth, I can see and use the editor here on this help forum.
So I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Any help anyone might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need any further information.
Thanks very much for your time!

Hi, try going to your Admin panel and click Display and then select Colors in the menu to the left. You will have the color options but also a tab option to edit the CSS. Add the codes there. Though we had a similar problem with my mobile users and we haven't found a solution yet.Topcat wrote:Please be patient with me. Re: (Only Topic!) New Editor
I have to say that I preferred the old msg editor, and new updates like this should have been optional. I now have to look at glaring white boxes on two dark forums
One thing ...I have noticed is that when I copy and paste the tittle of a youtube video the text is enormous on the editor, although when posted it reverts to the proper size again.

Re: (Only Topic!) New Editor
Adding the two CSS codes above gives this
*****************
img.smiley {
width: auto !important;
height: auto !important;
}
.sceditor-emoticons > div{height:200px;overflow-y:scroll}
.sceditor-emoticons > div > img{left:auto!important;top:-38px!important;right:-8px;background:#FFF;border:1px solid #DDD;padding:5px}
****************
This removes the shake, removes the double image, puts in the smileys at full size, provides a scroll bar, allows you to select more than one so most problems with smileys are fixed. Well done forum posting team - I shall go back and add some kudos.
I think that your BBCode for each smiley will need a colon either side of the text or the spaces between them will be removed if they are quoted and they will run into a single text string which will not produce images
So if your smileys were called heart kiss love they would be rendered into images when the post was made but if it was quoted it would become heartkisslove which would show as text.
I think putting colons back in smiley BB code is an OK price to pay

Worked on phpbb2.. Good work!

THAT would be great... I could also change my background instead of the text color!!
