Add An Option To Send Information About Spambots To Forumotion

First topic message reminder :

I was thinking about the issue of spambots lately because I have had many register on my forum.

My suggestion:

A new option be added to the ban feature where we can send to Forumotion the spambots'  usernames, IP addresses, and email addresses.

Maybe there could be a button on the page after you ban someone that will load a page that you can fill out the information about a spambot or have it where it is automatically filled out.  After filling out the forum, you can press the send button which will add the spambot to your ban list and send a report to Forumotion.

I thought about false reports, too. I would say if Forumotion receives atleast 10 reports about the same person, then the person could be considered a true spambot.

I often see bots listed as being online . I thought they are harmless . Is a spambot different ? Or something of concern ?

The bots you are talking about are the search engine bots, indeed they are harmless and only wish to index (learn more about) your forum for search engines. The bots in question are different bots, very malicious and serve no purpose other then to throw their useless spammy posts around the forum. They will appear as a registered user. You will know when you have one, based on the post and even most likely their email address which is usually verg long and has a ton of periods.


As for the suggestion at hand, I vote 100% yes. I hate spambots with a passion. Feature is needed.


As for what you said SLGray about them jumping onto our forums via the profile link, let them come, I have got an awesome, active staff that trained to deal with spambots and would find pleasure with dealing with them. Instanta ban! How we do it, then just move one of the posts to the dump and delete the rest. Spambot never to be heard from again. Bring it on spambot, me and my staff are prepared for anything and if its a war you want, its a war you'll get. You wont get that far though, our staff are VERY active .

if this were a thing you could potentially use it to cancel out Proxy users, which are essentially people who go on a proxy site to change the IP Address of themselves constantly at a fast pace which pings them all over and makes it impossible to IP Ban, if this feature was implicated it could prevent this so I for one am for it

Spmbots are spammers.  Search engine bots are different.
