New User receive error message
Firstly, Hi, first time of posting here, so please be gentle with me
I've created my forum, but whenever a user tries to register they get a message stating:
I've had a hunt around the administration settings and searched this site, but haven't found a reason for this.
The security setting that I've taken are that I require a website name that they are already on + a manual intervention of me checking it before they are allowed to be members. Has anyone come across this error before?

Sorry, but that e-mail address is already registered to a user.
Sorry, but this username has already been taken.

This message appears because the e-mail and the name they are trying to register is already taken. Ask them to log in on the forum. Also make sure they activated the registration e-mail they received. Also you should try going to admin panel=>Users & Groups=>Users=>Inactive users and activate the accounts of the members there.

Not possible, the first user (after me) who tried to join got this message.
I activated the account and he could log in fine after that.
I'd already checked in the "admin panel=>Users & Groups=>Users=>Inactive users" as that's where I activated the account from. He messaged me through another site to tell me he'd got that error, and I got exactly the same when I attempted to set up other "false" account with email addresses that I have

Re: New User receive error message
is he having this problem after being activated? what is your site address? i will try to join to see if this happens.
Re: New User receive error message
This is just happening as a member joins, so after registration, but before being made active

Re: New User receive error message
it will happen until he is activated i believe. This is because he is actually registered, so trying to register again will only show that the username and email is taken. As soon as you activate him, he will be able to use the forum as normal. A member can only log in and use the forum when activated.
Re: New User receive error message
hmmm... I think you may be mis-understanding me slightly.
The user is not trying to register again, simply to register for the first time.
When I've tested it (as a new user, with a new email address), I've been getting the same message.
Obviously I need to get this sorted before I get other users on the forum

Re: New User receive error message
even if he registers for the first time and tries to log in for the first time he will get that message until he is activated. He must have registered once for you to be able to activate him in inactive users.
Re: New User receive error message
I have just registered and this is what i got. Please activate me and i will see if i get that messageYour account has been created. However, this forum requires account activation by the administrator. An e-mail has been sent to them and you will be informed when your account has been activated

Re: New User receive error message
i am active and logged in fine, with no error message. I would say this is purely because a member is trying to access the site when inactive.
Re: New User receive error message
I just tried it again, and admittedly I didn't get the same message this time.
Instead I got told that the username was already taken (it isn't) and haven't had an activation email.
I'm not exactly a stranger to running forums, but this is all very strange to me

Re: New User receive error message
thats okay. If you imagine that you have a member waiting for activation and another one comes along, so happens to join up with the same username, it will create conflict, so even though the first member is not activated, he may be if you decide to, so his username must be protected. You cannot have 2 members with the same user name

Yep, that's fairly obviouszinex wrote:, so his username must be protected. You cannot have 2 members with the same user name
Not used the same name twice yet on the forum.
I think I'll have to play around with it a bit more, and see what happens
