Re: Inactive users, disabled from reading the forum ?
Hi
Actually, there are a few ways to do that but we'll stick with the easy one lol.
Anyway, let's take this step by step, dayum :3 (I ish cheery today)
#1 Create a new group called "Inactive Group"
#2 Place any member you want in that group
#3 Go to ACP < General < Categories and Forums < Click on any permission of any forum or category < There should be an advanced setting below it < Make sure you do not have "Inactive Groups" checked for viewing messages, etc. (Just adjust it to your desire < Save
Hope it helps~

Cant seem to be able to alter the permissions, where there is a green background they are fixed, and cannot be altered..........my forum version is phpBB2 (subsilver) and I am wanting to restrict viewing and posting of the main page to certain members who are inactive.

If you check the box for members, all the boxes will be automatically checked.

Re: Inactive users, disabled from reading the forum ?
Hi St Gray, yes ive seen this......but im wanting to make a user group where inactive members who never contribute anything to the forum can be placed into. This group only consisting of maybe half a dozen none active members would not be able to read or reply to any of the topics, without going to the extent of banning them from the forum.
All I can make out is either stop all members from viewing, or stop no members from viewing....

Hello,
So you want the inactive members not to be able to certain forums or the whole forum? Can you explain more in detail? Thanks.

Hi
Well... there's no such thing as adding a member to a group automatically if specified so your best option would be to manually add them.
There's also this method: https://help.forumotion.com/t131419-how-to-hide-a-visible-section
Please try it, if it doesn't work, can you please explain more again.

Hi Jophy, im wanting the inactive members to not see all the topics/forums, reason being if they do not want to post and give any input to the site, then why should they have the benefit of reading posts made by other members......if they do decide to contribute to the site, then it would be a simple matter of removing them from the inactive members group, so they could post again.....
thanks.
Will have a look at the link Pizza Boi, thanks for your help......

Re: Inactive users, disabled from reading the forum ?
Well you could create a group (auto-subscribe) for members who have 1 or more posts, and one group for the inactive members. Then set the permissions without checking the members' boxes.

AP > General > Categories & Forums > Permissions
View forum : Unchecked for that group
> Save
Apply this to all forums.

Re: Inactive users, disabled from reading the forum ?
Hi
Hmmm... this is actually just an image explanation of what Jophy and SLGray said. I decided to make it visual so that you are able to comprehend easier .
#1 ACP < Users & Groups < Groups Administration < Create a New Group:
#2 Have a set-up similar to this: (Don't forget to save! - Once you created it, add group members in it!)
#3 Go to ACP < General < Categories and Forums < Click on these things (Marked in red):
#4 Now have them set up like this and then save!
Don't worry if the settings on first gets cancelled out as you are using a custom. Note: You cannot do this automatically, it has to be done manually.

Pizza Boi
