Re: Graphical Software Discussions
I'd pay the money again , cos I think photoshop is worth more.
i bought CS2 a long time ago... it left a crater in my pocket for a long time ... But luckily i have got good contacts here and there so I got CS3 practically for free.
But after sitting in CS3 for the time i have I can really say the program is worth every little penny that you put into it.
For a graphics designer it is heaven... i need no other graphics program.
you can describe photoshop using 1 word:
ultimate

There are millions of photoshop tutorials. I'm sure you'll find one that'll teach you basics... my forum has some...
Re: Graphical Software Discussions
I use Pixia and Photofiltre most of the time, couldn't quite get the hang of gimp and gimpshop's interfaces, they were all seperate parts I had to keep toggling between to get anything done

Re: Graphical Software Discussions
is paint.net better than GIMP considering their both free.
And what would be the better one for a graphics noob such as myself?

Re: Graphical Software Discussions
I suggest you try GIMP 1st, it's way better then Paint actually, in my opinion.
Some might even say GIMP is better then other expensive softwares people pay for because GIMP can do for free what most elite graphics software do anyway.

Re: Graphical Software Discussions
After been using Photoshop for almost half a year...
I think I got a hang of it.
I recommend everybody that want to create amazing graphics or become a GFX to get Photoshop CS4 no matter what. lol.
This is a truly an amazing program.
And yes... I'll have to agree with Jalokim even though I say is expensive couple months ago...
I'll totally pay $999.99 over again, cause it really does worth more.
Around the $4 Grand Zone.

I'm sorry.
But Photoshop CS4 dominate everything.
Best graphic program there is.
I promise you that.
Lots of functions and other sweet stuff.
It make the impossible, possible.

Re: Graphical Software Discussions
I use Photo Shop, Gimp (although only recently) and Paint Shop Pro.
I find Photo Shop - is best for animated Avatars, like my own and actual Photographic quality pictures.
Paint Shop Pro - in my opinion is best for static Avatars and Anime Banners... general imaging...etc.
Gimp - I have found is only useful for it's simplicity of the tools system.
Note to Caihlem: "GIMP is FREE" ^_^
Note to myself: "READ THE THREAD FIRST BEFORE I POST AND NOT THE FIRST PAGE ONLY"
(Yeah, as I posted this, I only thought there was one page of this Topic.. DOH!)

Lol Caihlem.
Photoshop = Animation, Flash, etc.
CS4 now even provide you with some basic stockphoto for you to do now!
Only good thing that Gimp is... FREE! And basic.
But doesn't even compare to CS4 when the choices come in.

Re: Graphical Software Discussions
By the fact that I reinstalled my Ubuntu this summer, I now have Gimp 2.6.6, and this was some adaptation since the toolbox window's menus (File, Edit, Xtns) have been merged with the central window's menu.
What I like is that we can now resize our rectangle and elliptic selections without having to re-select, and we can move and resize a text layer while using the text tool, and I can now justify my texts, so I can give a better preview for my webdesigns.
Another thing that's fun with 2.6 is that we can now enlarge and shrink our brushes in the painting tools' options, whatever the brush we use (basic or custom)
Right now, the version 2.7 is on the go to be ultimately be released as 2.8.x (Gimp uses the Linux kernel's versioning system : if the second number is odd, it's a dev version, if this number is even, it's a stable version). This version will give the possibility to toggle to one-window mode, and to group layers. Right now, it's the first dev release, so I think the stable version won't come before New year's Day, but I'm confident it will be released soon enough to be integrated in the next Ubuntu release that will come next spring.
