Search doesn't work.
I've tried every thing it only works for few words but most words that I type it returns 0 results.
example the word delivery it does not show that theres a word delivery in the forum after searching but I have made a topic that has a word delivery in it.
~ ADDED INFORMATION ~
Search button is among one of the most basic and important feature of a forum not fixing it will result in spam thread frustrating search for a specific subject and many many more. Believe me if a forum doesn't have a good search engine it reflects the quality of service it offers and its a BIG DEAL ISSUE. Lastly it will effect the customers going to your forum because they cant find the topics that they are searching for.

Re: Search doesn't work.
I agree the search function is almost useless. I carried out several searches using various different words which I know are on the forum, either in a post or in the subject line and the search function found none of them.

Re: Search doesn't work.
It really seems hit or miss depending on your forum. If you go through the Forumotion directory, you'll see some forums have search that actually works, while others don't. Not sure why, except that with a normal phpBB install we can go to:
Admin control panel -> Maintenance -> database -> search index
and rebuild the search index.
I agree that a forum is greatly handicapped if 'Search' isn't working.

Re: Search doesn't work.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to search for keywords in threads? The search function only searches titles of threads and not the posts themselves. Pretty useless if you ask me!! gggrrrrrr this really bugs me about forumotion. But I LOVE everything else

Hi DSDU and all,
You can try to do an advanced search, and when you do, there is an option to choose "display results as posts", tick that off and try to search.
However, saying this and recently trying to search my forum for things...I'm finding what many of the others are as well that the search function in our forums is mostly useless. I'm beginning to wonder now if this is the reason I can never find what I'm looking for on this forum.
Re: Search doesn't work.
is there a way to fix this
a way where u can search the contents of posts and not just thread titles
is there a way to ask th admin?

Re: Search doesn't work.
search engine in all forumation forums is bad. All users cant search 3 letters words. You can suggest this in suggestion section but in 92% forumation not add new search engine...

Search Box Broken - Seems to Be Google Masquerade
The search box is definitely broken. It may just be a front for Google search and have no real connection to the forum.

Re: Search doesn't work.
Hi Everyone,
I've suggested this again to the techs so hopefully, one day in the not-too-distant future the search function will be fixed and work like it should. I've added another poll so PLEASE VOTE! A forum without a good search engine is really handicapped like someone else mentioned.

Re: Search doesn't work.
Where is this setting? I can not find in Admin. Panel.Admin control panel -> Maintenance -> database -> search index
and rebuild the search index.
I am a certified computer engineer and experienced a similar system built with Linux, Apache, phpBB, and MySQL.
In a standard search procedure, a search string is to be relayed to another PHP script via a form format as variable to fill in a SQL query.
Here no further process. Won't work at all.
I earnestly wish for a viable PHP search script.

Re: Search doesn't work.
Regular "Search" won't work as you know? Nevertheless, "Advanced Search" applies Google Engine and works fine.
Another solution is; Change an interface to "Advance Search" mode only

Thanks Whooper for this suggestion. I would have never thought to try to do a "google" search on my own forum because I thought it would mostly bring up topics that weren't on my forum but the opposite is true. The only problem with this is that if the google bots haven't indexed and recorded all your posts, they still won't show either. It still does appear that the advanced google search works better.
Re: Search doesn't work.
Hello Brad38,
Thank you for your reply Yes, google engine is originally designed to cope with unknown anonymous resources. It is not focused on what we exchange in this forum application.
Best way is still the use of internal search capability of MySQL DB server. If I were allowed to access source codes, I am sure that I could write the script. Too bad for now

Yeah, it's the same for our board too. What kind of search engine doesn't search in posts? It's ridiculous.

Re: Search doesn't work.
Well, I've just about had enough of not being able to find stuff on my forum. So I'm thinking of switching to vBulletin.

Re: Search doesn't work.
Hi Cas,
Sorry you're still frustrated by the search function not working, I am too. I've found a few ways around it, trying the different options in search and using the google search on my site etc. Still, it's not very good at all.
Vbulletin software costs money to buy and license though. Also, it's not as user friendly as forumotion is. I checked it out myself once before and you can even set up a fake forum for a 24 hour period but it was pretty confusing.
I am holding out hope that a better search engine will be one of the upgrades here at some point. They are constantly working on improvements to our forums behind the scenes so I think it's just a matter of time before something is done about it.

Re: Search doesn't work.
Bumping up...can we PLEASE once and for all get the search options working????? It's just not acceptable to have no decent searches on our forums and ESPECIALLY now that the Google/Advanced searches have stopped working.
