Description of problem
Hello,Thank you for taking the time to review this issue. I truly appreciate your hard work.
This question was asked in January 2015 but it was never answered. Instead, another question regarding backing data up took over the initial query.
Is it possible to Archive Forums or Categories???? I have some topics/categories/forums (?????), whatever the appropriate lingo is, but I don't want to delete them permanently as there ARE instances when I might want to export a piece of an archived subject and put it back on the site at a later time.
Does this make any sense at all? I am no computer nerd but would REALLY like to know how to archive.
Thanks so very, very much
Susan Strauss

Re: Arhiving
Hello,
Yeah an archive forum is basicly a locked forum, so what you do is go to acp->General-->Categories and forums , choose or create the forum you wish to use as the archive, it will ask via a dropdown box whether you want the forum to be unlocked or locked, select locked, proceed in putting in the usual details for it. Save.
Next whenever you have a topic you wish to be archived simply moved the topic to the locked forum.

Re: Arhiving
Sorry, I have one more question.
How can I set up my "Archive" Category to look like this:
ARCHIVE
Developer's Corner (and all the forums under this category ----- i.e., Playcademy, Eipix, ERS ----- would just go in this one place without losing their Category Name?) But, I don't want to SEE the Forums under the Category unless I click on "Developer's Corner".
Day Info (and all forums under this category - for instance, word of the day for May, weird holiday for May, etc. -- would just go in this one place without losing the Category Names).
Miscellaneous
Does any of this make sense? Is this even possible please?
Many thanks,
Susan Strauss
But I really don't want the entire Site to be set up this way. Just the ARCHIVE category. Is this possible?

Re: Arhiving
Well you can either set it as a sub forum so its within a given forum or you can make it 1 forum at the bottom or something?
I had a bit of trouble understanding your question, may you elobrate further? Maybe screenshots would help .

Re: Arhiving
Brandon,
Sorry about that. Sometimes, I OVER elaborate and what I want gets lost in .... all the rambling.
I have a Category called:
DEVELOPERS CORNER (which contains some forums such as):
Eipix
ERS
Playcademy
Another Category I have is:
CHECK IT DAILY (which contains forums such as the following):
Word of the Day - March - which contains a word for each day - 30ish posts)
Word of the Day - April (which contains a word for each day in April - 30ish posts)
Word of the Day - May (which contains a word for each day in May - 12ish posts)
Wacky Holidays - March (again, for each day - 30ish posts)
Wacky Holidays - April " " " " " " ditto
Or I might even have something standalone in Check it Daily such as:
FRIDAY the 13th! (I would like to archive this and bring it back every Friday the 13th because it contains facts, trivia, different fears people have, etc.)
or
Mother's Day (again, if archived, I could bring it back every Mother's Day)
So, I guess I would JUST like to see the "Archive" Category set up to look like this:
ARCHIVE:
Developers Corner: Well, all of them could go in this Category.
Word of the Day - 2015 (and I could then break it down to individual months?)
Word of the Day - January - and put all the 30ish posts this one place)
Word of the Day - February - and put all 28/29 posts for the month in this one place
Word of the Day - March - ditto
Wacky Holidays - 2015 - set up just like above for word of the day.
Miscellaneous: For ... well .... miscellaneous stuff - lol
Announcements
Does this help??? I just have things I don't want to delete and don't want put into one file and then have to go through, potentially, hundreds of posts to find what I want later.
Again, maybe trying to be overly simplistic I've made it difficult to understand???/
Sorry.
Susan

Re: Arhiving
Hello,
Well you could simply change the name of your "Check it out daily category" to "Archive" but please take note that a category can not be locked or have topics in it. It cn ONLY have forums in it that can be locked.
But the way I told you above should give you the desired result.
