How old is your forum?
Have you added your forum to google and bing and any other sites ?
when you say search categories Do you mean FM's ones ?

Your forum must be certain time online to be listed on search engines, however you can go to your Admin panel -> General -> Search engines and you'll see links for google, bing etc, click on those and submit your forum link to them.
Add keywords as well.

To add your forum on the Forumotion categories, go to Admin panel -> General -> Forums directory and select category for your forum.
