Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
Hi,
I'm using PunBB and Firefox browser:
I'm having a problem getting a transparency effect to show correctly in my uploaded images into servimg, via my forum Admin panel. The transparent shadow area is showing as a solid black colour, also the main transparent area is showing as a solid white colour.
Here is a slightly fuzzy screen grab from my servimg account:
I've tried uploading the images directly into my servimg account whilst being signed in. The image files are PNG files and between about 40kb-70kb. It's really bugging me trying to sort this issue out, I've even uninstalled and reinstalled all my design editing software. The transparency issue for me has been going on for over a week now, it's stopped me from doing any more design work on the forum. I also noticed on a few occasions an uploaded image was not showing in the Admin servimg panel, it was only showing the image number with a blank panel/page where the image should be. I have tried loading the photo images via Photobucket into my forum and there's no problem, but i would like to use the servimg root folder for speed and reliability. I have updated my browser (Firefox) to the latest version, i'm also using Vista 32 bit, is there an issue with servimg???
I would very much appreciate any help with my transparency issue.

Hello i have a little trick that may do it for you
when using servimg you have a setting of size 800PX and lots more change it to NO before uploading your item and see if that works if not you can us tinypic to upload your item then host it with us after with the url setting.

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
Hi APE,
Thanks for your response:
I tried using 'NO' in the image upload size menu and hasn't solved my problem. It was all ok up until about 2 weeks ago, i have uploaded the same image in the past without any transparency problems, this was after a slight brightness adjustment to the image, so i know it's not the image size in 'kb' causing the glitch. I was wondering if it's to do with not being able to get any more windows Vista updates? I think support is now switched off for that operating system? It's really bugging me, i might even try deleting all my images on my forum (even in my CSS code) and do a fresh reload.

No it should not be a problem as it's a upload from your computer to our systems.
did you try and use tinypic.com to see if that helps ?
also try and save it as a gif file

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
APE,
I tried Tinypic and the image looked ok but an unwanted Chinese advert loaded into my browser, so that put me off. My images load ok via photobucket with no problems, but i want to have my images in my forum root folder for speed. I want my small images (photos) to be PNG with transparency and shadow effects, if i load them up as GIF files they will loose photo quality and effects.
Like i mentioned above, i had no problems up until about 2 weeks ago with servimg. I am also going to uninstall my graphic card drivers and do a fresh install to see if that solves the problem.. I remember having a few bad PC lock ups when i was browsing on y-ahoo recently and i had to do an emergency shut down, i wonder if this had anything to do with causing my image problems, like corrupting my graphic card drivers? I will report back.

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
Hello thanks for letting me know i do have one other way to do it and it may work for you.
You have the file on your photobucket and its all working fine right ?
Well get the Direct link URL and then go in to servimg and use the URL to add the item to your servimg account then we will host the file from photobucket that way its a copy of the url and then servimg will host your item as well as photobucket

Ape,
Thanks for your continued support.. I will try what you have mentioned above, it sounds promising. I did shut down my Photobucket account a few days back but i'm going to start a new fresh account with them, i will try using my other photo hosting account with 'Imgur' until then. I'm now looking forward to getting my forum design rolling again.
I will report back soon, Thanks for your help.

APE,
I hope you don't mind me reporting back so soon.. I tried all of the above and it's still not working for me, i tried the image code from my new Photobucket account and also from 'Imgur'. The image shows transparency and shadow effects ok when i post it in a test reply on the main forum page, but the transparency and shadow effects show up as black and white when i view the same image in Servimg, so there seems to be a glitch somewhere with Servimg. It's been two weeks now and i'm running out of ideas of how to sort this problem out

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
skouliki,
Here is the image below, it appears ok on my main forum page in a test reply, and also here as you can see, but image problems appear when viewed in the Amin panel when i upload to servimg and also when i'm signed into servimg. I wanted to keep the image in my root folder with servimg for speed and reliability reasons. I had no problems before this, something has changed but i can't think what?
Here's the test image posted from photobucket:

APE,
I know what you mean about jpeg, but it doesn't support transparency surrounding the image, it will show as solid white. I will also try posting the image URL on the page from 'Imgur' in pics management, where it says 'Icon url (Internet address), i will report back here soon.

So this only happens when you upload it in the administration panel? What happens when you use the host an image button when you are posting a message on the forum?

Sorry for not getting a fast reply to you, health problem..
Thanks for your intrest SLGray,
The graphic problem happens when i upload an image that contains a small cropped photo with a transparent background, a shadow effect, and an outline with outer glow of 1% in size, this gives a thin black line around the white outline of the photo image. The graphic problem also happens when i paste a URL link into the admin upload image panel (host and image) via photobucket or Imgur, it also happens when i am signed into my servimg account directly.
I've tried everything to try and find where the problem lies, but no luck. The image shows up ok when i post it on my forum via a photo host URL ([img]) like above.

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
skouliki,
I also tried a few other cropped photo images that have the same effects, and the same problem occurs when i upload them to servimg. Tomorrow i will try getting the original photo from my camea SD card and start again fresh. I was thinking if my photos/digital code for this image has been corrupted in some way after getting some severe lock ups when online??? I will flush the old image from my pc and reload a fresh one.

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
Hi all,
Sorry for not getting back sooner.. I managed to upload an image into Servimg without any issues with transparency today, this was done whilst being signed into my forum, but i still need to do a fresh design with the image in my posts above, i will reload it into my pc via a SD card from my camera. It's really odd that i'm having these transparency issues, if things don't work out for me i will have to completely reset my vista computer back to factory defaults, then reload all my service packs and design programs in again, it's going to take about 4-5 days to do this..

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
Why do you need to clear your vista computer ?
this has nothing to so with your computer at all it's down to a file problem when hosting a file with a back shadow this is not a problem with your computer as far as i can tell
Also if you read skouliki's thread it says that skouliki had the same problem.
So it is nothing to do to your computer it's the image it's self.

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
Hi APE, thanks for your continued intrest,
First, i really do appreciate skouliki's input and expert help.. I was going to reset my pc because my security stopped working a few times, it's never done that before, perhaps i was being over too cautious. I've even tried uploading a small graphic design directly into servimg and the same problem occurs, it was a PNG file with transparency and shadow effects like my earlier image upload attempts. The only thing i have left to try is to make a new folder to store my fresh image reworkings, plus open a new graphic folder to store my new image designs with DrawPlus X5 (Serif).
Could there possibly be some kind of registry corruption on my pc that's causing these issues? Or because i need a certain update via windows update.. Windows update for Vista computers now seems to be turned off, i can't get anymore updates.
It's hard work trying to pin point the image problems i'm having, but i won't give up, i still have some more things to try..
I'm sorry if this issue is becoming a long drawn out affair

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
skouliki wrote:hello my i ask you design the images with what program?
Hi skouliki,
I use 'DrawPlus X5' and 'PhotoPlus Essentials' (Serif) for all my design and photo editing work. I also use 'Media Impression 2' (ArcSoft) to store all my photo folders which contain all my designs and work, all my work is backed up on my black box external hard drive. I've checked for updates for all 3 programs and all are up to date. I was also not ruling out some kind of registry corruption, this is why i was going to factory default my Vista computer, that would be a last resort.
I might even try purging/deleting all the images from my forum, the ones that i uploaded and reload them to see if there is a glitch in my forum of some sort? (servimg). I am now going to try various new temporary image uploads via fresh photo folders, i'm trying to find out if 'Media Impression 2' is a problem, but i've just recently reinstalled the program and the same problem occurs.

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
Hello @clivvers
I don't know if you have been told but Microsoft no longer gives windows Vista computers any more updates.
they stopped all updates about 6 months a go and have even stopped support on this same thing.
Updating your computer to windows 7 up is the only way to get Updates again but even then Windows say they are thinking of stopping support on this to but they have not gave a date or year for this as of yet.
My advice is not to roll back your computer as most of your Updates will no longer get added t your computer as there is no support any more from Microsoft.
I know you don't use photoshop but maybe this will help you

if you can send the img to me by Email without the shadow to this address ape@achatworld.com
I will be happy to see if i can do it in my photoshop and Email you it back

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
Hi APE,
That's a very intresting point about there being no more support for Windows Vista, i did try uploading some images with transparency via a Windows 7 laptop and the same problem occurs, it was the original problem image which i loaded in via an SD memory card. I have a few other tricks that i will also try before i send you the image via email, thanks for offering, i will leave that option in my top drawer in case my tricks don't work.
I have about 7 more image designs to do for my forum, all are similar to my problem images. Thanks for the intresting link, i'm off to study it in a moment. I am going to try the new folder trick first, i also have a new program that i've not used yet, it's Photoplus X6, i will load that in and try it but i don't like the photo storage system it offers, it's prone to many crashes. Everything worked fine with my older program up until about 3/4 weeks ago. I will have a busy evening tonight, i will be back hopefully soon with some results.

Re: Image Transparency Problem (Servimg) PunBB
Hi APE,
You've had the same image problem as me when you did a test via W7, it appears universal to Windows Vista & W7 users. I do hope the problem is to resolved soon, it's been making me have late nights for weeks. Medium text desgins with shadow effect seem to work ok for me, but not certain image combinations with shadow effects..
I've tried every image combination of layers i could think of tonight, except diagonals.. I did manage to get one image uploaded ok without issue, but it had to include an unwanted text layer that also needed to contain a shadow effect to get the transparency to work for the rest of the photo image. The text must be in a seperate layer above the photo image and not below it, but the text is not what i wanted in my image. I hope this little extra info helps in towards tracking down the transparency problem with Servimg or missing Windows updates?.
Thanks for the intel, i'll be popping back soon,
