Solved Requesting Domain Help

Post by Tothian February 5th 2017, 2:33 am

http://heroesnetwork.forumotion.net is my forum.

http://heroesnetwork.co is the domain name I bought from GoDaddy.

I also bought 3000 Credits on Forumotion in my Administration Panel, so that I can host my forum.

GoDaddy was semi-helpful, telling me to go to Edit Zone Record, and putting a new IP Address on there which is connected to my forum. That is the part that GoDaddy was able to tell me.

I don't know my forum's IP or what to put there in the "Points To" Option.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solved Re: Requesting Domain Help

I saw that, but it wasn't really helpful to me.

I explained what I needed. I need to figure out how to get my forum's IP, so I can list it on GoDaddy, and thus have the URL redirected to the forum.

I did buy 3,000 credits on forumotion, so I need to figure out how to connect the two.

Wait a minute! Why did you buy 3,000 credits if you purchased the domain name somewhere else?

Solved Re: Requesting Domain Help

I thought that would be the money it would require to host it here.

For example, I have a website www.Tothian.com that I bought the domain at GoDaddy.com - but I hosted it at site123.com

So I figured forumotion would require money for me to host it. Or no?

GoDaddy customer support told me all I needed was to know the IP Address of my forum and that that was all I needed. I couldn't figure out how to find that though.

we do not have the settings for the IP address you have to follow this
https://help.forumotion.com/t7021-cname-redirect-an-extern-domain-name-that-you-own-to-your-board
as for credits you have got on FM well they will not help as you have already a domain name by godaddy

if you follow whats in this link gave right then you will not have a problem.

Those options listed there weren't on GoDaddy.

Any recorder of domains names possesses different interfaces, and thus different methods to create such CNAME. However, in a general way, the process takes place as described below:

  • Connect to your user account on the site of your domain name provider, and go to the DNS management.

  • Check that the chosen sub-domain is not already used.

  • In the generally entitled field "source", "origin", or "alias" enter the prefix of sub-domain (i.e. "Forum" if you want to use the sub-domain forum.my_domain).

  • In the generally entitled field "destination" or " target host ", enter the original url of your forum, address.my_forum.

  • You will maybe have to inform the TTL (Time To Live): define the maximal possible value here.

Hello,

Tothian wrote:GoDaddy customer support told me all I needed was to know the IP Address of my forum and that that was all I needed. I couldn't figure out how to find that though.

You do not need the IP address of the forum to configure an external domain on your forum! A simple nslookup will give you this IP anyway but it would serve you absolutely for nothing...!

The only way to properly configure an external domain on your forum is via a CNAME as explained in the tutorial provided.

We can not list all the domain registers that exist, but the process remains exactly the same.

Tothian wrote:Those options listed there weren't on GoDaddy.

Any good domain registry provides this functionality...

On your GoDaddy domain manager, clic your domain > Domain Details > DNS Zone File > Add Record > CNAME.

We are not here to provide GoDaddy support. So if you need or have more question about this, please contact GoDaddy Delta Team Wink

Thank's
