Solved Who's Online GoogleMap Member Inclusion

Post by timberella on May 15th 2018, 2:08 am

I would like to be able to display the GoogleMap for Who's Online, but instead of displaying all the members who are online, I would like the display to only be a list of members. If I turn it on, then all online members locations will display, and I only want to display the members who give consent to be displayed on the map.

The GoogleMap I am referring to is:
AP/General/Statistics/Forum Statistics: GoogleMap options

Is it possible to create a list of members for display on the Who's Online GoogleMap?

Hello @timberella

That is currently not possible. However, the members are marked in blue on the map, and guests in green. That way is easier to recognize them. You can click on them to show who's who Wink
I will give you an example of myself in this forum:

Thank you for the reply, @mpelmmc.

I was thinking that it could be achieved with a little Javascript magic, but I'm not a Javascript magician, so I need the help of a wizard, i.e. I need someone who can write the Javascript for me LOL.

I'm glad you wrote about this, Timberella. I had no idea Maps were turned on by default and anyone could see locations of members. Google is a little too specific that you can see their exact location. No privacy.

The thing is, Google Maps isn't always accurate. They have me located at a library I haven't been to in five years, when my computer broke and I had to use theirs. I've been to other libraries since then and used their computers, but Google Maps didn't stick me there. From a privacy standpoint, I guess this is good; I just wish they located my "permanent" address at a nicer library. Smile

I do not use them on my forums.  If you just want a list of members online, turn the map off.  The list will include guests and search engine bots.

@SLGray, I'm not looking for a list of members online; I already have that.

Some of the members would like to have use of this map, but I don't want to turn the map on without the consent of everyone.  I'm guessing that some members would not give consent and that is why I have asked if there is a way using Javascript to pull from a list of USER IDs of members who give their consent to show on the map when they are online.

So it would be some kind of edit of the process that is already installed.  But instead of showing ALL members who are online as it is now, it would only show members (USER IDs) who give consent who are on the list that I create.

@PoodleyPie, at least you were located on land.  When I looked at where I was located, I was in the water  Laughing  LOL.

I do not believe that can be achieve, but how would the code know who has agree or not? There is no option in our profile for the Google map.

Google will not always place your marker in your home street it will only place your marker where your main IP box is saved so if you have a box where your internet or phone line comes from IE the main hub (network box) in your town then it will show you in that part not your real address.

It would not be safe under the data act to give your real address.
I live 14 miles from where it tells me I live and my IP address say I live in a big town but I don't I live in a small town with fields all around me (farm land )

ok back on topic Sadly this can't be done as far as I know sorry @timberella
