Post by Zeta on July 27th 2018, 11:28 pm

So, I've got a bit of a conundrum. I have a forum where the background is to be translucent, everything including the text, editor, etc. All the background images and icons need to remain translucent too. Currently there is this in the CSS:

body {
opacity: .5;
filter: alpha(opacity=50);
}

And it does exactly as it needs to to made everything that needs to be translucent at the right 50%. It also makes the images posted in topics and character sheets translucent though, which needs to not happen. What do I add to this to keep everything else translucent but make the images in topics and character sheets completely opaque?

Please use the code tags when posting code, thank you.
Code:
[code][/code]

Unfortunately, if you use the selector "body" when determining what to target for the transparency, everything on the site will be affected. You would need to code each thing you want to be transparent if you don't want images to be affected. Like "postbody" for example.

as Draxion said above you would need to code each thing you want to be transparent if you don't want images to be affected.

you must open the dev. tools and select each element separately and style it

its not a general code we can give

Is there a bbcode for changing the opacity of an image that can be placed in a post or character sheet that will work instead?

Hello!
You can try using this to change the text color to be transparent but for images I am not sure but you can always try.

Code:
[color=transparent]Invisible text here[/color]

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
James

I need the images to be opaque, not transparent. The 50% opacity of the text is fine already and does not need altered. It is only the images that need changed.

I’ve been over this here already more than once and I’m kinda sick of repeating it. I run private forums. I’m not giving the link. Even if I did it wouldn’t matter since non-members can’t see anything past the login or register pages. Please stop asking.
If you can’t help that’s fine. I’ll just ask somewhere else.

Very well. If you don’t want to share your forum link, you can option to send the link via PM and a test account we can use.

There's no need to be rude or aggressive to anyone. Just some patience. Wink

So from what I understood you run a rpg forum where you only want the members character sheet to remain fully visible and the post images. Am I correct?

It is a private forum. We don't have test accounts. And giving you the link via pm is no different than giving it to you here. I'll ask somewhere else where they won't demand such things.

I'm not being rude or aggressive. I'm being matter of fact.
Yes, it sounds as though you are correct. I like the look the 50% opacity gives to the forum, but I need the images in the posts to be 100% opacity as well as the image in the character sheet.

I would say that asking 3 times even though the the link was not given after any of them, then asking a fourth time after I state it will not be given is demanding, or bordering on it at the very least.
I require help, in the form that can be given without the forum link. Better help, while it would be nice, is not necessary as long as some form of help can be given. If that is not possible. please just say so.

Since you have your
Code:
body
set to have the opacity at 0.5 you can't force any other element to have higher opacity because the body element is the one that wraps everything inside it. You'd have to set everything as 0.5 opacity separately. That, with a phpbb2 forum is very difficult to do because of the forum structure.

For example, if you have this structure:
body
- post
-- img

whatever you do to the body, the post and the img will also be affected as they are attached to the body. Now if you have this structure:
body
- posts
wrap
- img

and you modify the body, only the posts will be affected as the wrap and the img are not attached to the body element. I hope this helped you better now. There's not much we can do at this point as this is a one by one element work which will take a lot of time and effort to do, as you'd have to pick on every element to change the opacity to avoid what you are looking for.

That does not really help, no.

depending the information you can give us these are the best advice we can give, as you can understand codes is not magical we need to see the elements of the page so we can produce the desired result
i think Luffy gave you the best solution on how you can achieve what you want
personally, i dont think this can be done with java but wait for Luffy or Draxion to answer they know Java better than me

tip: you can always open a test forum duplicate to your original with a random name ...just same version same java on and give this forum to appearance or script issues

We understand that, but with coding issues, it is very hard to help without the site url to work with cause then we can not see the problem ourself to diagnoise it.

I can tell you I know all the staff members here very well, none of us would 'leak' anything from your forum if that is what your worried about.

That is only a small portion of the issue. My members are fairly anti-social and introverted and everybody knows at least somebody else there. They come to the forum to play the rpg. We have a chat that's rarely used and we don't have a "general discussion" area since none of the members felt we needed one as they are not there to socialize. It would make them deeply uncomfortable to have a random stranger lurking about. The other matter is the principle of it.

All you have to do is tell your members that a certain account is only for support and testing.

We will be not be interacting with your members unless the issue involves them.

Just set the account to hidden (then only moderators and admins will see the account at all) or tell them it's just a test account for someone in support team to help solve an issue. We would only use it long enough to see what the problem is and then get off.

"support and test" makes it sound like a bot, which it wouldn't be. And I'm not hiding an account that a person would be on from them. That's too much like lying.
You don't seem to be getting it. You're being there is going to make people uncomfortable. Some, if I know them as well as I think and I've known them for a good while, might even be angry or bail completely. I'm not losing the trust of my members over this. I know you want the account to help and that you mean well, but its non-negotiable. It is not happening. That is the end of this part of the discussion. Now, instead of hounding me please provide what help you can with what you already have.

I am not trying to be rude, so please refrain from taking it that way. That is not the intended tone.
