Solved Backing up and deleting all content

Post by A.Nightside January 1st 2019, 7:29 pm

Hello, I have a relatively new forum I'm working on and seem to have come to an impasse on how I want my categories set up. As well, as my general display layout. I don't think I need any help with building and modifying all of that (yet), so no worries.

*I was wondering if there was a way, and how, to back up my entire forum and then erase all content so as to start over on a clean slate?

I don't want to delete and re-make a forum as I have a few members I don't want to lose. The ability to create another forum would be good, to make a sort of test forum, but I understand that each user can only have one forum. So that's not an option.

I'd like to back up everything so that, if I change my mind again, I can restore it.

I did read the rules, and I apologize for not having made a post before making a new thread but I saw nothing I felt a need to comment on, and the Introduction thread that is linked in your Greeting and Rules is locked.

I did search for my question, but didn't see anything that helped, I hope I have not overstepped bounds or broken rules.

Thank you for your understanding and assistance in advanced.

Thank you for your response.
I had visited the utilities before posting this question. I did see the backup tab, and the dropdown of dates to select. I only have one date.

The dates are previous backups, right? And selecting one restores the forum to the state as of that date, right?

I think I was misreading or misunderstanding. Those dates (in my case the one) is the only backup I can create right now?

How do I create a more recent backup? One that will allow, say today's date to be selected/restored tomorrow? Is that possible somehow or to trigger my board to recognize a more recent date as one to back up?

Hello @A.Nightside and welcome to the support forum Hello

Our system saves your forum on our database and then lists the backup on the founders tools that you have already looked at.

You can make as meany forums as you want there is no rules to say you can only have one.
Most members will make a test forum to make a change before adding it to you real forum, The only thing you must do is use a new email address for each forum you have and that's it.

What I like to do is make a skin or layout in the test forum then when i am happy with the look I copy everything over to the real forum. so I think this would be the best way to go until you are 100% happy.

Hello,

Just to add on to what Ape has said, you can not create a back up, our system does it automatically, once every couple weeks it will make a backup and be made available on the utilities. There is no way to make a backup for a specific date or anything.

Yeah a new email is not easy for me. But we are restricted to one board per email/account.

So, as far as recent backups, I should just wait, then? And see when the next, and more recent, backup saves?

Yes, after awhile you should see more dates as time goes by.
