new posts not indicated

my forum is on phpbb2 and my theme is xand.

i've noticed that when a new topic or post is made by members, it is not indicated by the topic icon (or "new topic" or "new post" picture") of my theme.

is this only happening to me?

No - it's not only happening to you! I am using phpbb3 and I had a friend try to help me find this out last night. Actually, as he reported to me, the *new post* icon beside our names is not showing the icon it is supposed to show (not the one I have assigned!) It's showing the default I believe.

No, none of my *new posts* topic icons are working. (I have checked their URLS too, and they are active.)

yes, i'm only using the default topic icons. i didn't change anything, so i 'm not sure why its not working properly.

Hope someone has answers for us soon - as I feel this is a legit problem needing addressed!

Oh yes, I've been having this problem for awhile, but as my site is not really up much for business yet - it's something I'm just getting around to addressing.

I'm actually not using hitskin images for these topic icons. As I said, I have checked and rechecked my URLs, and they are fine . . .

Any help would be greatly appreciated by both of us!

mine appear to work fine.. but than again, i got all my own images, and saved under my own info and accounts..

any advice from the experts?

would be great to have the new posts indicated so members would know that there are new posts for them to read.

OK first of all can you that are having these problems please post your site url. And be sure I can view the forums.

Are you having troubles with the new post icons on the index or in the forums them selves?

Have any of you edited your css or templates?

i tried making use of images saved in my own folder, for the "new posts", but it still doesn't work.

does this have something to do with the theme? hope someone can provide some answer soon.

Man this is tough! I have been really trying to come up with a reason why this is happening.

This is one of the side effects of using hitskin (although it is a great feature) that once you want to change the skin, the hitskin still stays.

I havent forgotten about you, I am sick with the flu and have a ear infection.

here's an update:

i tried changing the theme but it still didn't show the correct images for "new posts". i changed it 3 times but in all 3 themes (all of them hitskin), the images were still for "no new posts".

i'm still stuck on this problem. help anyone?

So Party . . . you did what I did on the Hierarchy page, and it didn't work? My icons are showing up great.

yes bpoetic. i made the changes to the hierarchy settings but it didn't work.

here's how my categories hierarchy settings are now:
Show the last topic titles on index - yes
Sub-level links on index - with icons
Display forum moderators - yes
Display viewonline information box on index - on root index only
Display bots in statistics of the forum - no

there must be another setting that i've done wrong.

You know . . . I don't know if this has an baring at all or not. I was thinking - one of the other threads that is popular right now talks about how to disable ads by going to the admin's OLD VERSION. It does work for *that* particular problem. Have you thought to go into the old version of your admin panel and see if the setting are proper for what you want?

Also . . . under *List of pictures* in STYLES . . .
I have my pictures in:
Mini category - New :
AND
Mini post - New :

You are sure those aren't checked as *HIDE*

My hierarchy is set to: Keep categories on index : FULL

thanks for the advice. but nothing works.

i tried going back to the old version and checking all images. since they are correct default settings for the images i didn't touch it. i made a test post, but it didn't show as a "new post".

i also tried changing the images for the "mini-icons" and set the hierarchy to FULL, but that didn't work.

here's another update:

i have 5 categories in my forum, and somehow it works on some and not on all. there's 1 category that has new posts and the "new post" icon is showing. but this did not work in the category where kilsek made a test post.

Hi party . . . sorry I couldn't get back quicker. I am really stumped as to why some would work and some aren't working. This really sounds like something for the techs to take a look at. I'm so sorry our suggestions were not able to work for you. Maybe you should add: Need Tech Support into this subject's title. That will alert admin that you need assistance this board can't give you . . .

Im having the same problem and ive tried everyting thats been posted here but nothing works
Its really annoying that you cant see when theres been a new post or a reply.

The Techs should probably have a look at this, but before I move it to the approprate section, I'd like to have some additional info from the users that having issues:

- What icon shows instead of the "new posts" icon? The normal "no new posts" one or nothing at all?

- Where aren't new posts indicated actually? On the forum index or when you view the topic list? Also, does the small arrow icon on the index show up properly (the icon that lets you jump to the last post being made)?

- Are you using custom CSS (Text written in "Styles / Colors / CSS")? If yes, please post everything that is written in that box.

- If it happens only in particular categories/forums, please name them and provide us with a link to your board.

The more precisely you answer, the faster the problem could be detected.

just for clarification, new posts would appear if i haven't read these posts yet. once read, that post becomes an old post. but as long as i don't read the post, its still considered a "new post" everytime i log in?

- It shows the same icon as "no new posts"
- It doesnt show the "new posts" anywhere. I see a litte arrow and a blank sheet, so I think its showing up properly
- I havent change my css settings
- It happens in all the categories/forums...

Luckely my sight isnt really up, so there arnt many posts, but when I loggin with my "test" name and write something I sant see it as a new post when I logg in with my "admin" name. It doesnt work the other way around either.

I will pm you my account informaion, maybe you can find whats wrong with it.

First to say, I'm not a technician, just a helper on the support.

Well I know that the new posts disappear when I logg out, whether I have read them or not (unfortunally)

But when I post a new thread or answer on a thead and then logg in on a different account I cant see the "new post" icon. And if I do it the other way around, post someting new with the "test" account I still cant see it with my admin account.
