Solved Remove Post Subject Description while retaining the time and date.

I wanted to remove the post description in all replies on my forum. I found this code here on the forum:

  display:none;
}
 
.forumline > tbody > tr:first-child + tr + .post > td:last-child .postdetails {
  display:block;
}

It works brilliantly, but ideally I would like to retain the time and date on each post without the subject description. Is this possible?

Hello,

You can disable topic descriptions without any code at all. All you have to do is go to ACP-->General-->Messages and Emails-->Configuration--> Scroll down until you see the 'Topics' section-->Allow topic descriptions: Tick to no and save.

Hi @Brandon_g I have found a topic with what I want to do here:

Removing words from post description

I can't find the part of the code mentioned in that topic in my viewtopic body though. I have removed the css I had on, so description and time and date are now displaying. Would really like to do what the poster did in the linked topic though.

The problem with removing the title without the time and date is that they share the same element class, so the only way to remove one without the other would be to somehow assign the time and date a different class from the rest of the text.

I'm on phpBB2

My main issue with the description is, I recently added some post buttons courtesy of users here on forumotion. I love them, but now the post subject description goes down the post a few lines leaving a big gap before the posters reply. Like here is one example below.

I would be just as happy if the info could be moved so it displayed better. Otherwise I guess I may have to lose a couple of my buttons

Since PhPBB2 was an ancient version many years ago, I'd suggest you to upgrade your forum version to latest one, i.e AwesomeBB or ModernBB for the best display

Thanks guys, but changing my version would mean I would have to redo all of my forum as it will reset to default. Otherwise I would have been happy to use the phpbb3 you suggest @Brandon_g

@SarkZKalie I get that the versions you mention are newer, but personally I prefer the phpbb versions. Plus my members have just got comfortable with the new forum. So changing it would likely lose me members.

Anything is possible, but I do not know how. Maybe the @TheCrow can help.

Also it is possible to migrate your theme over to phpbb3, I did it for my forum about 2 years ago. Just make a test forum, export your theme on your main forum and import it to your test forum. Then all you got to do is adjust any codes you have to work on phpbb3.

Technically you can just export the theme, and copy and paste your codes into a work doc, make the switch and import everything back without a test forum, but from my experience there will probably be bugs, so I recommend doing it first on a test forum where you can fix any potential issues.

when you make changes in a template and you save..
you must also hit the check button to publish those changes otherwise the changes will not appear to your forum
