Description of problem

Hi!

I have my own website (/domain) where I am hosting all of my images that I use to decorate my forum posts.

I just noticed that if I put the image in a post as an image using html or BBcode, the image is automatically hosted to https://2img.net or something like that. I think it is quite a new problem.

Can I prevent that somehow? I believe I have no need for an external image host because I am not using the secured https:// protocol neither in my forum nor in my website where the images come from.

I would love the images to appear as they are hosted in my website. The problem is I sometimes change the images behind a certain url and I would love them to be updated to the forums at the same time. Now, because of this auto-host, I can't update any images like that.

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

If you do not want your pictures hosted on 2img.net simply host them on https.
Forumotion hosts again only :
- Pictures in your posts that are in http:
- Pictures placed on your admin panel in Display > picture management

Hello @Neptune- and thank you for your quick reply!

What a disappointment that all the images are forced to https even though I have chosen not to use the SSL in my forum. Sad In my opinion the auto-hosting of images is very unnecessary.

So that brings up another question: is there a limited amount of storage space for these images that Forumotion automatically hosts? Are the images progressively taking space somewhere? I have the free package if that makes any difference.

Thank you @skouliki for your reply!

I am quite confused right now. When I log onto Servimg using the same email I used creating my forum, I can see only the images that I myself have deliberately hosted there using the "host image" tool on creating messages. I cannot see any automatically hosted http-images there.

On who's cost are the http-images then hosted, if they are not on my account taking my storage space? They must be somewhere in Servimg, right? Confused

Unfortunately, that system is the best reply Forumotion could do.

Many founders used to host their content on their own sites in http. Sites offered in many cases by Internet Service Providers.
Those sites are still in http and many boards switched to https since and lost all their content. It's why Forumotion developed that auto-hosting for http pictures. Auto-hosting has also been used on hosters about to close (Tinypic, hostinpics) or to change their terms of use (noelshack)
I know this can be disturbing because i have my own space (in https but as long as my pictures are in admin panel, it's hosted again too)
-> No way for me to change my logo without changing its URL.
But benefits on most forums are stronger than our individual point of view.

So that brings up another question: is there a limited amount of storage space for these images that Forumotion automatically hosts? Are the images progressively taking space somewhere? I have the free package if that makes any difference.
For you it doesn't change anything. This space is unlimited and not taken on your 20 mb space

Thank you very much @Neptune- for the clarification! I love you That explained it all very well. I guess I have to just learn to live with it even though it is an unpleasant feature for me personally.
Have a good day! I will mark this as solved.
