Solved Javascript issues

Post by Eliffe Fri Feb 05, 2021 4:15 am

Hello!

I have a big problem.
The javascript codes on the test page work without any problems (https://ships-in-the-night.hungarianforum.com/ - The page is currently closed. I can open it up on request.)...
Some example:
Javascript issues Unknown
Javascript issues Unknown
Javascript issues Unknown
Javascript issues Unknown

They don't work on the another where I actually plan to use them in the long run. (https://mirage-mirror.hungarianforum.com/ - The page is currently closed. I can open it up on request.)...
Some example:
Javascript issues Unknown
Javascript issues Unknown
Javascript issues Unknown
Javascript issues Unknown

The two pages have the same settings, codes everything since the first one was kind of a back up, and the second one where for some reason the javascript does not work even if it's enabled and it's completely the same as on the back up one.
What could be the problem? How could I solve it?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Try and turn the JavaScripts off then turn them on one by one to see if the codes are conflicting some how.

Both Ape and SLGray are right, you will need to first narrow down which javascripts are working and which ones are causing the problems, and then after that we can help you try and fix it. Often times it can be a problem with just 1 script that can cause the rest not to work.

on your main forum, you have many errors when i inspect the page

Javascript issues Scre2356

this means that one of your codes is not closed properly and generates this error
sometimes if in a code a second slash (/) symbol is missing after the second asterisk (*) then the whole code is being considered as a comment and gives this syntax error or you could miss a (/)
so the best solution is to manually check your javascript one by one

as you can see on my screenshots below on your main forum the codes are not working so definitely there is a conflict

Solved Re: Javascript issues

Post by Eliffe Sat Feb 06, 2021 5:08 am

I have one to show avatars in the private messages list.
Also in the recent topics module.
The one that helps overwrite the original color palette.
The one where I can add extra topic colors also one for removing them.
The newest members avatar.
Blocking the toolbar for guests.
The one that helps me ovewrite the basic test in the statistics. (Instead "Online in the past xxx hours" my own text.)
The up-down buttons to go to the top or the bottom of the page.
The one that skips the "Information" page and throws me right to the post instead of the "Information loading page".
The select all code from the "code" section.
Also one for saving the progress in the posts.

When I'm trying to put the avatars for private messages and the recent topics (only tried to first one when the issue occured) then all javascript disables itself and does not work even though it's turned on.
I just really don't understand why does it work on a page with the same settings and codes, and why it doesn't on the other one.
Is there something I missed or doing wrong? Because I don't understand how can it work on one, but not the other like if they would cancel each other out they would do on the other forum too, right?

So for some reason even though I copy pasted all the codes from the test forum to the main forum (CSS, JAVA, TEMPLATES) still it has errors that the test forum doesn't? I checked every setting I re-copied everything twice now and I can't figure out why some javascript has conflicts with each other on the main, but not on the test one.
Also I tried turning the javascript on & off, didn't work.
I really don't understand how can the same settings, codes can show error on the main, but not on the test.

Also after I removed the javascript that blocked all the others nothing changed so now it doesn't matter that the one that blocked them is not there anymore the rest gave up and won't work again.
My friend copied my codes to her older forum just like I did from the test to the main (which is a newer one) and on her forum everything works perfectly without any issue. I'm starting to think that the issue is releated to the main forum somehow.
Could there be a problem that it's a newer forum? Or is it something else I missed?

It really must be something you have done wrong as all base forums are the same new or old.

Can you tell me where to look for an error, because I went through every little setting, re-copied things twice, but at this point nothing is really working on that forum. The javascripts don't work at all anymore.

1, Remove all the script's,
2, Remove all CSS Files
3, Resynchronize  your forum,
4, Clear your browser cache,
5, Add your CSS back then save
6, Add each JavaScript back one by one test after every one to make sure it works.

You may need to clear your browser each time you add something to make sure it don't get to full of changes.

Solved Re: Javascript issues

Post by Eliffe Sat Feb 06, 2021 10:08 am

There are some features missing from the newer forums, so couldn't it be possible that something else is different?

Javascript issues Unknown

Honestly at this point I give up. I created another new forum the javascript doesn't work there either, so I might just have to use an older forum from somewhere because it's seems like the same javascripts doesn't work on newer forums, but do on older ones which is completely weird.

As I can see here, there is already an another topic reporting a similar issue, where the javascript doesn't want to work for them. Could it be that it's not me, but something else entirely?
