close forum and open forum for guests?

If you want to close the forum to non-members for a period of time, so that only members can log in.

However, so that guests can see at the top of the page and cannot see anything else that they can log in to participate.

And then later open the entire forum again, both to guests and to members.

I know you can do it on other forums' systems.

can you do that and how?

Yes. You will have to edit the permissions for each section. When you are editing the categories and forums make sure you are in advanced permission mode.

If you mean automatically, it is not possible with the default system.
